For the days after, the crew went pretty busy. Kid was fixing his cabine. Killer was looking at the wounded and was helping those who healed them. Lanniya wanted to help him but she hated to see bleeding wounds. She helped her captain as she could, but he liked to build his things alone, so she was mostly cleaning the desk and cooking the dishes she could.
- It's ironic that the only woman on the ship is cleaning and cooking, said Killer teasing her.
- I do it because the others are wounded or busy on this ship. But you can starve if you want.
- No thanks.
Like all the other days, she ate and slept alone on the desk. She didn't dare to go in her room since everyone was sleeping outside. The only inconvenient was that the nights were cold. Another strange thing was the captain's behavior. He seemed disappointed and wasn't talking to her. As she asked Killer, he only told her :
- He doesn't like to fail.
This night was especially cold. She fell asleep without realising it and when she woke up, she couldn't find her blanket. Lanniya assumed that Killer took it for the wounded, which was not a bad thing, but it made her mad at the moment.
- Damn you Killer, she said shivering.
She spent a little bit of time shivering in the cold until she saw a blanket slipping to your feet. As she rose her head, she saw Kid awaken. He was apparently still working at night.
- You can take it I won't sleep.
Lanniya didn't answer and just cuddled into the blanket. It had another smell than yours. Surely Kids. It didn't smell bad. In fact, it was comfortable and she fell asleep soon. She only woke up when the sun over passed the border of the desk. The life on board has begun again. She continued with her duties, with this anger still rising inside. Luckily, the wounded started to recover and walk around.
Suddenly, a shout came out from the upper mast. A ship was coming toward theirs and it was obviously a pirate one. Kid seemed to be concerned. Lanniya didn't know who they were, which was a good thing. The ship came to them and stopped really close. The captain came. He was ugly, with a long nose and hair in picks. His crew was way to noisy. Kid was absolutely not happy.
The other captain challenged Kid to an old pirate game. Lanniya knew it barely but it made her tired to hear the rules. Kid was listening quietly.
- I'll propose you another game, he said in a very intimidating and visibly annoyed tone. You heard about the balance fight ?
The other smiled.
- Of course. What will be the gift ?
- If you win, we'll play your game, since you like to play games. If we win...
He looked at him scarily.
- You better flee fast.
It didn't impressed the ugly captain.
- Let's bring the balance !
As Lanniya looked at them, they put a small tiny board between the two desks. The captain then asked a small man with big red hair to climb up on.
- Which will be your champion ?
- Crane, he said.
She looked at him.
- Crane, I chose you. Go on this board.
She didn't know what to say so she took her scythe and got on the board.
- Let me remind you the rules : the first fighter who will fall from the board or because of other issues fail. All techniques are allowed.
His entire crew started screaming to mark the beginning of the fight. She didn't move. She didn't want to fight. She couldn't figure out why Kid picked her. It was maybe because of the incident with Blackbeard, but it wasn't even her fault ! She was tired of all of this and wanted peace.
The tiny man immediately ran towards her with his own sword and started to hit her until she could no longer stand up anymore. Lanniya still didn't want to fight. Once he saw that she was hurt enough he started to cheer himself. Hearing him humiliate her and seeing her mates sighing, she felt her anger rising uncontrollably. The knot that was keeping her away from being able to kill anyone crossing her path untied. She stood up with the most scary look she ever had on her face. She untied her blade and rushed to him. She hurt him really badly one time but she didn't stop. She continued to hit him until he fell on the floor. But it wasn't over.
She took out a dagger and hit him until her rage was gone. Blood was floating all over the board. The man was screaming like a dead man but she didn't hear him. Her whole body was covered with blood but she didn't realize it. It was then silent still. She stood up and noticed that there was blood on her cheeks. Annoyed, she wiped it with her wrist and turned back to join her crew.
They were all mute in shock. Lanniya was literally covered in blood and they just saw her, the young girl who never fought, killing a man with as much violence as Kid would do without a single emotion. As she reached the ship, the other captain tried to remove the board to recover the body. She turned to him and he froze. She kicked the board and sent the body and the board into the water.
- We won the game, said Kid loudly. If you remember what I said...
The others whined and they fled in a record time. Lanniya stood there, looking at her feet, not daring to look at anyone else. As she heard the other ship fleeing, she started to shake. When she couldn't hear anything from them, she jumped on the desk. The others stepped back a little bit but she didn't even notice. She walked toward her room while the others let her pass without a word. When she went out of the room, she had a towel and some soap and shampoo.
- Where are you going ? asked Killer.
- I'm taking a bath. My clothes are dirty.
Dirty was not even a good word to describe her mess. The fabric of her clothing was all steep, nasty and redish. Even her face and skin had been splashed with blood. She looked like she just escaped from a hospital by killing all the people inside. Nobody answered so she made her way to the bathroom.
The bathroom was strange. There were two parts only separated by a couple of columns. Originally, there was a part for Kid and Killer and a part for the crew, but since Lanniya came in, there was a part for her and a part for the others. The rest of the crew couldn't use it while her or Kid was in there. It happened a couple of times that Kid went to bath while she was in, but he didn't seem to look at her at all. At first, she was hiding in the corners but now, she didn't care anymore.
She took her clothes off and started to wash yourself. The smell of her shower gel calmed her down. It was a smell of flower, a mix of acid and flowery stuff. The feel of the water flowing down her back achieved to make her more peaceful. Some tears started to drop. She wiped them. She didn't even know why she was crying, except maybe because of the knot inside her stomach.
Lanniya wrapped herself inside her towel and went to pick a bucket. She filled it with water and started to clean up her clothes. That's when Kid opened the door and went to bath himself. Lanniya didn't hear him. For an unknown reason, her tears continued to fall. There were always more and it blurried her sight so much that she couldn't even see the bucket. She tried to wipe them but it didn't help. Her towel even fell, making her struggle even more. She struggled to cover up and was then sobbing too much to even continue.
Meanwhile, Kid was watching her while relaxing into the water. He wanted to come to her, take her in his arms and comfort her. He didn't know why he was thinking of these options but he did not move. He was naked and so were Lanniya. Of course, she was hot as hell and he would give a lot to see her without clothes but it was just awkward right now. She finally managed to finish and leave. Kid was still washing himself under the little waterfall which did like shower. As his hands ran on his body, he felt incredibly alone and oppressed by the silence, as if her sobbings were the most magical music.
