Deanna.
"Okay na po ang hitsura ninyo, boss Deans. Relax lang kayo dyan." Kyla said before opening the door.
I waited for all the staff to get settled in their chairs bago ako pumunta sa harap. I have told them earlier that we are having a meeting here in the conference room.
"Good morning everybody." I greeted them.
"Hello, boss Deans. Hi, boss Deans. Good morning too." they all replied as they start to focus their attention to me.
I cleared my throat first then roam my eyes to everyone.
Kaliwa't kanan kasi ang balita about retrenchment of employees. The number of unemployed is getting higher everyday too. Worst, some companies have gone through liquidation already.
Hmmm, kinakabahan na talaga sila, Wong.
Nakalimutan ko na tuloy ang sasabihin ko, lagot. I cleared my mind and did a deep breath. Nakahalata yata si Kyla. As expected, she came to the rescue and gave me the folder she prepared. Maaasahan talaga itong Secretary ko.
"I'll go straight to the point. As you may have already heard from the grapevine, yes, we are indeed having a major transition in the company." I started.
As expected, there are murmurs around the room. May idea naman na talaga sila. Nasa news din kasi na maraming company ang maaapektuhan because of the corona virus and prolonged lockdown. And it's not just in the Philippines, it's all over the world.
Yes, recession is real, Wong.
Even if I didn't catch what they're saying, I have a vague guess. They're all scared about the security of their jobs. Or if they still have jobs as I speak. As much as I want to reassure them that they are all safe, I can't.
Not when we have a new business partner in the company. All our major decisions will now have to be agreed by the board. Like hiring and firing of employees since we really have to tighten the expenses as of the moment.
"Because of the crisis we had, brought by the covid 19, we can't help it but to try something new for the company in order to save it. We have lost a lot of revenues because of the lockdown, I'm sure you're all aware of that." I continued.
Mas naging seryoso silang lahat ngayon. Walang umiimik, lahat nakikinig.
"Don't worry though because we have prepared offers and options to all of you. You may opt to take voluntary resignation with separation pay of course or stay with us but with shortened working hours. Parang part time job until we get back on track." I explained.
"The Human Resources Officer will conduct an interview today so we will know your decisions and based on that, we can make plans ASAP." I added.
They started talking to each other, maybe comparing notes or asking advices.
"Understood?" I asked.
They all nodded.
But it's too late na. I was such a big disappointment pagdating sa negosyo. I just realized it now, hindi ko forte ang mag manage. My decision to hand it back to my wife was such a great feeling ever. Para akong nabunutan ng tinik.
