The stars were twinkling in the clear navy blue sky that night; the full moon was shining in all its glory. That's why it was the perfect night to be sat in the spacious conservatory with a fantastically beautiful white concert piano playing a sweet tune. Sadness was lacing they overall tone of the piece, not because it had been written to be sad but because the daughter of the deceased composer was playing it.

As the gorgeous melody came to a close, Y/N's hazy dream cloud was broken by a sudden applause coming from somewhere behind her. She spun on the piano stool to see the prince also in his sleeping wear with a handsome smile on his features.

"That was beautiful, Y/N," he said softly, sitting by her on the seat, "Did you write it?"

Shaking her head with a soft sigh, Y/N replied, "My mother did... a few months before she passed."

"Your... mother?" C/N frowned.

Nodding solemnly, she let a sad smile take over her lips, "Nina isn't my mother. Nor are Carmen and Bella my real sisters."

"So you're the only real princess?" he said.

"By blood, yes, but as daughters of the queen they are essentially princesses," Y/N tapped a random white note, "Can you play?"

C/N nodded, observing as she got out a piece of music designed to be a duet. She explained it was another one of her mothers, but she'd never been able to hear the entire thing together. And now that she could, it was the most amazing things that she had ever heard.

The harmonic notes made her feel alive, but as soon as it was over she found herself breaking down in tears. Two warm arms wrapped around her, allowing her to cry into a chest. C/N rested his chin on her head while rubbing her back gently, not saying anything to avoid risk of upsetting her even more. Something told him she hadn't properly experienced affection in a very long time.

He spent a lot of the following days talking with her in the secret parts of the palace that only she knew of, but dinner they both spent in silence while Carmen and Bella continued to flirt mercilessly. They'd even gone as far to personally insult Y/N in front of C/N, but hadn't quite reached the point of revealing what they were actually like around F/N.

Much to Y/N's dismay, it was the Sunday evening meal and the last one as C/N was to leave that very night. She knew deep down that even if C/N did want her, Nina would never allow it to happen. This would be the last time she saw him: the man she had developed feelings for in just two days.

"So, Prince C/N, have you come to a decision?" F/N asked, their plates all now empty.

"Yes, I have, your highness," C/N smiled, "I would like Princess Y/N to be my bride."

Nina immediately interrupted, "She is not an option. It is either Carmen or Bella."

"As far as I am aware, the letter I received mentioned that there were three princesses here for me to choose from," his eyes met Y/N's, her face now flushed and rosy.

"Well, it was obviously a mistake!" Carmen stood up angrily, "Besides, without full parental consent Y/N can't marry you."

Y/N coughed to get the attention on her, and said in the firmest voice she could muster, "Nina isn't my mother. She never officially adopted me."

"That means all the consent required is mine," F/N sighed, "And also means I should have listened to my daughter years ago. From now on I will try to listen to her more, and also give my full blessing towards her marriage."

Lots of good things happened after that. Y/N's father divorced Nina, denouncing her as queen and Carmen and Bella as princesses. C/N and Y/N had a very grand and beautiful wedding, making Y/N the future queen of his kingdom.

C/N showed her nothing but love, and played piano with her as much as possible.

It really was a happily ever after...
