good day

———————

First day at a new school. Never fun midway through the year. Catching up on work and scrambling to find friends were two key problems that Y/N would face. Well, she didn't really care for finding new friends so there was pretty much only one dilemma.

Strolling down the corridor was already a weird experience. This was the only school in the area that didn't have uniform. She found it weird wearing her favourite baggy grey hoodie and soft black leggings. Her white doc martens were broken in and more comfortable than the pathetic school shoes she had to wear before, which was different and new.

After a short search, Y/N found her allocated form room with almost all of the desks occupied. Everyone stared at her with expectant looks in their eyes, taking in her new and unknown appearance. The woman sat at the teacher's desk gave her a stern look, before pointing to one of the two free desks at the back. Silently, Y/N sat down in the window seat and let her thoughts wander to a different world.

Her attention was brought back to reality when a threatening boy wearing a black jumper and jeans stood in front of the desk glaring at her. "You're in my seat, newbie," he said in a stern and cold voice.

"I don't see your name on it," she spat back, "I don't see how it's my fault you're late."

The previously silent room set alight in gasps and mutters, all attention on the two students staring menacingly into each other's soul. Maybe hands would have been thrown if it wasn't for the strictest teacher in the school being the form tutor.

"C/N. Tone down your ego and sit next to her," she snapped, to which C/N instantly obeyed, "And, Y/N, just because you're new, does not mean you have the right to act cold to others yourself. You have a lot of catching up to do, young lady."

Sitting back in her chair, Y/N clenched her fist and teeth with anger taking over her being. Real nice for the teacher to not even bother asking why she acted this way. Not that she would tell her, but it would show the teacher had some heart inside her body. She was one to talk about being cold.

The teacher finished taking the register, just as the bell rung signalling the beginning of first period. As everyone started filing out of the room, she called, "Y/N, C/N, stay behind. I want to talk."

Both of them stood in front of the desk, crossing their arms in sync and giving a blank stare towards the tutor.

"C/N, as mean of a person you are, you're a gifted student," the woman sighed, "And Y/N will need help catching up with the course work. I want you to tutor her."

"Why should I do that?" C/N scoffed, giving a fleeting glance to the girl next to him.

"You'll get out of homework for the next month," she said, with a checkmate sort of look in her eyes.

C/N let out a sharp breath and dropped his arms, "Fine," he said firmly, "Meet you outside the gate after school."

The day passed by in a blur, as Y/N spent most of it zoning out with bluetooth earpieces playing music into her ears. The bell rang at half three, and she found herself walking towards the undeniably handsome but still cocky boy from earlier. He stood outside the gate, giving her a withering gaze as she walked ever so closer to him.

"Your house is a long walk away," he noted as they reached the twenty minute mark of their journey, "We're working at mine tomorrow."

"Yeah, well that school isn't in my catchment zone," she replied, "I'm meant to go to [insert random school name]."

C/N found a billion questions running through his head, but the only one he asked was, "Why don't you go there?"

Her gaze flitted to his face as they both came to a stop outside her house, "Let's just say people there aren't very nice and like to beat others up," she smiled sadly, letting the first emotion of the day cross her features.

Y/N's parents weren't home from work yet, meaning the house was empty and they could work at the dining room table. Half an hour had passed already: half an hour full of awkward silences and avoided eye contact.

"Then, after that, we covered quadratic equations," C/N said, after finishing a recap of the first two subjects done in maths at the beginning of the year.

She gave him an exasperated look and leant back in her chair; while Y/N was good at maths, she didn't enjoy it even in the slightest. The only reason she had listened to anything he was saying was because she had to admit he was nice to look at. C/N was quite a handsome boy and the simplicity of his outfit just seemed to accent that. His voice was quite monotone and cold but still incredibly attractive. Despite their earlier spat, Y/N still found herself developing the first signs of a crush.

"Are you even listening to what I'm saying?" he interrupted her thoughts, allowing a little exasperation to lace his tone.

"Would you believe me if I said yes?" she asked cheekily.

Shaking his head, he pushed the textbook forward a little and said, "Let's take a break for now." A small smile crept on to his face as he properly took in her appearance for the first time. There was no denying it, Y/N was very pretty. Overlooking the fact she had an attitude, of course. But then again, he wasn't one to judge on that as it would be a bit too hypocritical.

"My friends from my old school turned out to be two-faced bitches. They went as far as physical abuse, and while I can fight I can't fight multiple people at once," Y/N said, replacing the uncomfortable atmosphere with what she knew had to be said, "My parents transferred me to this school to get away from them, but I still see them outside my window sometimes."

"I'd say I'm sorry but it's not really my fault," he said with a small chuckle, making her giggle a bit. The sound was music to his ears, "You can stick around with me, you know," he continued, "No one'll dare touch you. And I won't either."

"Well, you can touch me but not aggressi-" she trailed off upon realising how that sounded, "Uhm... I mean... well..."

Leaning over the corner of the table to her flushed face, he held her chin with his hand and muttered, "So I can do this?" and left a lingering kiss on her rosy lips.

Y/N didn't say anything, but nodded feebly.

That was only the beginning of a much better school life for her, and C/N.
