Y/N had had a crush on her best friend of twelve years for precisely three of those now. She hated the fact that a person she had met when she was four, and vowed to always be best friends with, now made her heartache whenever he flirted with another girl. It had taken him going out with a girl back in year 7 to realise this, especially when she had to act sorry for him when they broke up, despite secretly being overcome with joy and relief. That had made her feel like shit.

In the past two years, everything about him had become perfect to her. From his looks and personality, to his morals and name. C/N was such a perfect name for him.

The thing is, C/N had only just started realising his feelings for Y/N. A couple months ago, when she was excitedly cheering at the television at her favourite cartoon, was when it hit him just how adorable she was. And also just how amazing she was. C/N was only in the early stages of hating himself for liking his best friend and potentially ruining their friendship, whereas Y/N was all the way in the last stage of regret and wanting to move on.

The only difference between the two was the fact that C/N actually had intentions of telling her. He firmly believed that honesty was the best policy, and that they couldn't continue to be best friends if this was kept on the down-low. Telling her could also ruin it, but it was also the only chance at keeping their relationship strong and honest. It was a chance he had to take.

So, when he was around her house like usual after school on Friday, admiring her focused expression as she held the xbox controller in hand, he knew that it was the time to tell her the truth. Only problem? He was awkward as fuck. Y/N was as well, for that matter.

"Uh, Y/N..." he said, sitting up from his position on the sofa.

She merely hummed, her eyes trained on the television screen. She wasn't really paying much attention, and he could tell. He had known her for twelve years, after all.

"Y/N... could you please pause it for a sec?" he didn't wait for her response, and just pressed the pause button on her controller. Y/N immediately whined, scolding him for pausing it at a vital moment.

"What could you possibly want that's more important than the game?" she asked, so used to hiding her feelings at this point that it was second nature. She no longer blushed at anything he did.

"I... want to talk to you..." he mumbled, unsure of how to go on with her looking at him with expectant eyes.

She spun her hand in a circle, gesturing for him to continue.

C/N took a deep breath, "I, well... Y/N, I.... y'know, I...."

"Speak, idiot," she flicked his forehead.

He inhaled deeply again, before he said, "I, um, well... I, uh, really... uh... like you, but I..." he averted his gaze from her, "I don't, uh... want to, uh... ruin our, well... uh, friendship."

All Y/N could do was stare at him with wide eyes.

"Please, uh... don't be mad at me for, um... having a crush on you... Not after, well, being best friends for years, uh..." he flushed bright red, staring at his lap where his hands were fidgeting nervously with each other.

"You like like me?" she pieced together, wanting to make sure she was one hundred percent correct.

He nodded feebly.

It was at that moment all the phases of blushing and awkwardness rushed back to Y/N, making her be propelled back into the early stages of realising a crush. She was a blushing mess, and much like him began to stumble over her words as she attempted to piece together a reciprocated confession. "I, um, like like you... uh, too..."

As her head was cast down, with C/N now looking up, Y/N didn't see as his eyes widened and a smile grew on his face. She also didn't see as his face became even brighter, too ashamed of her own tomato cheeks to notice.

C/N let out a tiny squeal, crawling over as fast as lightning and crushing her in a death inducing hug. The breath was knocked out of her as he did so, causing her to have to choke out at a barely audible volume, "Can't... breathe..."

"Ah, sorry," he said, releasing her from his deadly grip, "I'm just so happy to hear that."

"How long have you, uh, liked me for?" she asked upon regaining oxygen, her tone still quiet.

"A couple months," he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, "I feel stupid for not realising how perfect you are sooner."

How the fuck was Y/N supposed to tell him she had crushed on him for three years after he had only reciprocated it for a couple months? Seriously, why was C/N making it so difficult for her? "Ah... well, I... have liked you for, uhm, much much longer..." she mumbled, scared of how he would react.

"How long?" he asked, eyebrows furrowed.

"Three years," she squeaked, grabbing a cushion and burying her face into it out of embarrassment.

C/N's eyes dropped out of his head. "Well now I really feel bad," he chuckled awkwardly, "But it's okay! I can make up for it by giving you all the love you need from here on out!"

It seemed like a pretty good deal to Y/N, so she began grinning from ear to ear, and wouldn't stop doing so for the next two hours.
