Y/N's family ran a bakery. A cute little bakery in their town's centre that was quite popular for big orders and local events. Her parents were in London for the week, meaning she was running the place by herself. She was just completing an order's decorations and boxing them when her phone made a soft ping sound from across the room.
Plonking the box of doughnuts on the side counter of the bakery kitchen, she picked up the device to see a simple text there from her mother.
Honey, we've just received a huge order for a celebrity's event! Due at the end of the day! D'you think you can take care of it? I'm sending the details now...
Her eyes fell out of her head when she saw who the celebrity was and just how big the order was. Five hundred chocolate cupcakes ready to be collected by seven? That was only six hours away! She would never be able to complete the entire thing by herself, but she also couldn't let her parents down. This event could be huge for the business.
So, Y/N did the most logical thing. She put a sign up on the door saying that the bakery was closed as it was taking care of a big order, and then called up any friends who were available. B/N was at a cousin's birthday party according to her response, but she soon received a reply from her long time crush saying he would be there in five.
C/N was spot on about the time, as he soon knocked on the glass door with a loose grey hoodie on. "Hey, need some help?" he smiled as Y/N let him in.
"Desperately," she said with a stressed sigh, "I'm just finishing the first batch of batter."
Handing him an apron as they entered the kitchen, C/N pulled off his hoodie to reveal his toned arms. His black undershirt was tight and hugged his figure nicely, making shades of pink brush over Y/N's features.
"The basic chocolate cake recipe is here," she pointed to her parents' homemade cookbook, "We have to make five hundred cupcakes by 7pm."
"Shit," he muttered, "I see why you're stressed."
The pair got to work, and as it turned out they worked very well together and met each other's pace. Just as Y/N was decorating one of the batches that had cooled down, C/N placed another tray in the oven. "Just a few more," he said with a smile, "And we have two and a half hours left."
"We can do this," she nodded with a hint of relief, "Thanks so much."
"I really don't mind," he shook his head, "I enjoy spending time with you, and this has been kinda fun."
Y/N's mind ticked back to all the jokes they had shared in the past few hours, "Yeah," she smiled at him.
They got back to focusing on the task at hand: baking, decorating and boxing the cakes as fast as their hands would let them. After what seemed like forever, they pulled off their aprons with a huge sigh of relief as the time ticked to five to seven.
"You've got a bit of flour on your nose," he poked it playfully, "Don't want the customer to see that, do you?"
"You've got some on your cheek!" she protested.
C/N laughed, before he said, "I think we should both clean up."
They managed to clean themselves of cake ingredients by the time the bell rang at the entrance, notifying them of someone entering. Y/N knew it had to be the customer, as they would have seen the sign on the door and known it didn't apply them. Together, Y/N and C/N walked out of the kitchen and into the front with boxes of cakes in their arms. C/N continued to make trips of bringing the boxes in as she greeted the person that had come to collect the cakes.
"I'm sure you know who's sent me," the person spoke in a monotone voice, "Are these the cakes?"
Y/N nodded, "All baked fresh today."
"Excellent," he said, "Help me load it into the car?"
Once everything had been paid, loaded and sent off, Y/N removed the message from the door and shut the bakery properly. She walked home with C/N, a comfortable silence settled over the air. They came to a stop outside of her house, standing in front of each other with small awkward smiles on their faces.
"I'll see you tomorrow maybe?" he asked hopefully, "I can help out at the bakery again."
"Thanks..." she said at the level of a whisper, "For everything."
C/N grinned, ruffling her hair, "Any time," he leaned down and pecked her lips softly, "Goodbye, Y/N."
She returned the grin, standing on her tiptoes to feel his lips on hers again. They were the softest things she had ever had the honour of touching. This kiss lasted a few seconds longer, but it was still chaste and ended too soon. "Goodbye..." she muttered.
He helped out at the bakery a lot after that.
