Weddings were painfully boring when you were one of the only people your age there. Meaningless adult talk killing your soul for hours on end, the only benefit being the free food. But, even then, it was all fancy snacks and starters that didn't quite appease one's hunger. Unfortunately, that was the situation Y/N faced on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
It was one of her mother's friends getting married, and quite frankly she hardly knew the person. She appeared to be the only sixteen year old there as of yet, and if that wasn't bad enough her dress was tight and itchy. Everyone was filing in to the ceremonial hall with light chatter being exchanged, the bride and groom nowhere in sight, to Y/N's dismay. This would take longer than anticipated.
Taking a seat by her parents in one of the pews, she scanned the audience of people only to catch the eye of a boy that was about her age and from her school. She had seen him around, and had to admit he was quite cute. Her heart fluttered when he smiled at her from across the room, to which she returned with a blush on her cheeks.
The ceremony began, and after what felt like an eternity later, it ended. Y/N didn't get to see the boy until they were at the privately booked restaurant a half hour journey later. None of the tables had designated places: the bride and groom had apparently decided to let everyone pick where they wanted to sit.
Y/N began looking around to see if she could find the boy, as her mother had begun talking to the bride and would be a while. "Hey," a deep voice spoke from behind her. Spinning on her feet, she was faced with the very boy she had been searching for.
"Hi."
"I'm C/N, I believe we go to the same school?"
"Uh, yeah," she mumbled, "I'm Y/N..."
His smile was soft and warm, and as a result all Y/N could wonder was why she hadn't paid more attention to this boy before. For some reason, as she took in his looks with a sparkling gaze, the only word that popped into her head was... ethereal. Never had she thought she would date before becoming an adult, but in that very moment all she desired was to be in his comfy embrace.
"Y/N..." fingers snapped in front of her face, "Earth to Y/N..."
Snapping out of the daze, Y/N blushed as C/N tilted his head cutely at her in wonder. "S-Sorry..." she said at a mutter, "Uh, do... do you wanna... well... sit next to... uhm... each other?"
"Sure..." he looked off to a group of tables across the room, "I think 'kids' have to sit over there."
The tables over there did seem to be crowded with many younger kids. Y/N managed to reply without stuttering, "Yeah, but d'you really think they'd expect us to sit with them?"
He shrugged.
As it turned out, they didn't have to sit over there, which made sense considering the newlyweds did say they could choose their own seats. The pair ended up sat among strangers, but it didn't really matter as they kept each other entertained most of the time. Y/N learned a lot about him in time they spent eating.
The after party begun... and Y/N felt her social battery reach empty the second they stepped foot into the bar area. "You seem tired..." C/N commented, before grabbing her hand and making her flush red, "C'mon, my house is a couple streets from here. We can relax and watch movies."
Normally, Y/N wouldn't go to someone she had just met's house, but in all fairness he was at a wedding with people she could mostly trust. And he had been nice all day, as well as attending the same school as her. So, Y/N accepted, allowing him to lead her the short but tiresome journey to his home.
"Obviously, my parents are at the wedding, so the house is ours," he said, kicking off his shoes, "This suit is killing me, I'm gonna go change. D'you wanna borrow some clothes?"
"Yes please," Y/N replied, removing her shoes much more delicately than he did.
Ten minutes later she found herself curled up on the sofa in a baggy pair of grey joggers and a loose white cotton shirt. They smelled fantastically like C/N, of whom was sat beside her in similise attire. 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' was playing on the television; of course, it had only just begun.
(can't fuckin wait for "jurassic world: dominion" next year ^_^... it incorporates the main characters from the original jurassic park trilogy)
An hour in, and Y/N heard some soft snores coming from the other end of the sofa. Glancing over, she saw that C/N was sleeping while partially tucked up to the armrest. In a moment of bravery, Y/N crawled over, quietening the volume of the television, and peered closely at his sleeping face. She plucked up the courage to press a sweet kiss to his rosy cheek, before smiling to herself at the way he turned his head towards her in his unconscious state.
She began shifting back to her end of the settee, but just as she begun moving, an arm wrapped around her back and pushed her down. The result was her face planting C/N's lap, which made her cheeks heat up as they normally do when one is embarrassed. Instead of getting up, which she probably wouldn't be able to do without waking C/N as his arm was quite heavy on her back, she turned herself so that she was facing the TV once more. Except, this time Y/N had a sideways view and a very sturdy leg-cushion.
Before she could process it, her breathing had slowed down to match C/N's pace, and she found herself quietly drifting into dreamworld.
She felt safe in his warmth.
