Chapter 27:

LIAM

With the lit bonfire on the center of our circle, torches on every corner under the dark night, we were having a good time jamming on the shore. May nagkakantahan, may naggigitara. Then tumayo yung coach namin and he speaks up.

"We all know that we will be having our team's semis on Monday. Alam kong a lot of you have poured your hearts out in every game that we played. You've been working hard on your practices and I see a lot of future leaders in this team. Well we are our own leaders. I just hope that whatever happens on Monday if you know you did your best, then theres nothing to worry about. But I hope that we will snatch this game. A lot of your seniors really pushed you hard (he was looking at us freshers and sophomores) to be your best. And they are hoping that you will be your best during the game. Hopefully maipanalo natin yung semis knowing na malakas yung line up ng Xavier University this year and makapasok na rin sa finals."

His words of encouragement pumped up our fighting spirit. Our ears were submitted to our coach's advice. They've done their part so we have to do ours also. But as what coach have said, come what may as long we do our best then there's nothing to worry about.

Habang patuloy yung kasiyahan at kantahan namin biglang lumapit sakin si Kuya Nathan. One of the graduating seniors at captain ng basketball team. He takes me then sa mismong tabi ng tubig dagat. May dala siyang bottle of beverage on his hand and so am I.

"I know it may sound too much, but I hope ikaw yung magdala ng team the next coming years." Nakabaling siya sa karagatan.

"Bakit ako naman napili mo kuya?" Tanong ko kay Kuya Nathan.

"I see great potential in you. Fresher ka palang pero inclined na yung level of game mo. Malayo mararating mo with the talent that you have. And I hope na dadalhin mo yung whole team sa kung saan ka man mararating." His voice in high spirit.

Yes its too much pressure coming from a captain who had shipped the team to the finals from his first year until his graduating year. But since he trusts me enough, gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko for the whole team. Di ba ang sarap sa feeling ng may makakakita ng kakayahan mo? Someone who sees your worth. I never felt that when I was a kid not until I met Dwight. Tinulongan niya ako with my studies and made my dad realize that I can be good enough for my family, for him especially. Maybe good riddance narin na I made fun with his twin brother para gumawa siya ng revenge plan against me and eventually magkita kami.

"I wont promise that I can make our team go far Kuya Nat. Pero I promise that I will do my very best. Not just for my own sake but for everyone's." Sagot ko kay Kuya Nathan.

Tumango lang siya then he pat my back.

You know I never imagined that I would see myself with Dwight feeling giddy and kilig sa tuwing nakikita ko siya. All those hate going between us ay naglaho ng parang bola. Siguro totoo yung kasabihan na "the more you hate the more you love." Well at least for us haha lol.

At dahil naiisip ko ang mukong na yun at this moment, tinawagan ko si Dwight nang umalis si Kuya Nathan.  Nagbabaka sakaling gising pa siya at this kind of hour. 11:50 pm ang oras sa relohan ko. I call him at pinick up naman niya.

"Yes hello?" Nadisturbo ko siguro siya with his sleepy voice mukhang galing to natutulog.

"Tulog ka na ba? Did I disturb you?"

"Not at all. Kakaidlip ko lang kasi nagpatulong si Bright sa project kanina... Bakit is there anything wrong jan at napatawag ka?" Ani Dwight with his drowsy voice.
