Anyone sitting here?"
"Huh?"
I took the earphones off of my ears and looked up. There was a tall, good looking guy staring at me with piercing blue eyes. His sandy blonde hair fell over his forehead and he clearly needed a shave. He took a drink of the Gatorade he was carrying and pointed at the seat next to me
"I said anyone sitting here?"
I looked at the seat and back up and him and shook my head. I watched as he got himself organized and plopped down next to me. I put the headphones back on and continued to "stare". He was different. Seemed to want to keep to himself and I could relate to that a little. He dug around in his bag and pulled out his own earphones and put them around his neck as he fumbled with his iPod. I quickly turned my head to look out the window of the bus so he wouldn't catch me staring. I heard him snicker at me and I slowly turned my head back.
"Like what you see?"
"What?"
"I see you staring. I'm not stupid."
"Uh no. I was just trying to figure you out is all."
"Mmmhmm"
He put the earphones on his head and put his head back. He smelled of peppermint gum and cigarettes and it was intoxicating. I shook my head and stared back out the window as the bus started to move. We were all traveling by bus to the next city. It was just easier that way. I hadn't been on the roster long...not long enough to make friends or talk to most of the others. I wasn't shy by any means I just didn't have much time to hang out. I looked over at him again. His head was still back and he looked like he was asleep until he turned his head in my direction and opened one eye and smirked at me. Ew is he flirting??!!! I half smiled and looked away again. I guess if I didn't want to be flirted with I should probably stop looking at him. It was hard not to though. He certainly wasn't ugly. Well there are a dozen other divas on the roster he could "flirt" with. I was just so ordinary. I didn't look like anyone special. I was on the short side. Not rail thin, but not fat either. I was just...me. I ran my fingers through my long black hair and hit a tangle towards the end. I sighed and raked my fingers through it and winced while pulling. I needed a hair cut...hell I felt like I needed a make over.
Wrestling had become my escape from life. My parents sucked. My mom let my dad abuse her and neither had any problems with my sister and I watching. Most parents would've been horrified at the idea that their young children had just witnessed what we used to see, but my parents never bothered to even care. As soon as I turned 18 I left home to train. I felt so guilty leaving Janelle behind because she was only 14, but I couldn't take her with me either. Their example of "love" is all I knew. I never had a meaningful relationship with people. I'd never really had a boyfriend either. At 21 I was was still a virgin, scared to be in love and afraid of making the wrong decision when it came down to having a man in my life. I sighed and picked at the black nail polish on my fingers. It was starting to get dark outside and I was getting tired. I yawned and stretched and started to doze off
Dean's POV:
I sat with my head back and eyes closed listening to music. I hated riding on the buses from city to city. I preferred to take a rental car, but the company insisted that this time we all take a bus. Somehow I managed to end up on the last bus and didn't get to travel with Seth and Roman. I sighed in annoyance and felt something on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and looked to the left. The girl sitting next to me was sleeping on my shoulder. It obviously wasn't on purpose based on how she was positioned. I wasn't going to bother her. I didn't care. She was cute. Plus I'm a sucker for girls with dark hair. She didn't talk much though....not that it matters. I saw her staring and trying to deny it. I snickered at the thought. She seems young...maybe a little too young to be up here on the main roster, but who knows why she's here. A strand of her hair fell in front of her face. I carefully moved it and smiled. I'm not a relationship kind of guy. I like to keep things casual with no strings attached. Who knows? Maybe someone would change that down the road. I put my head back and closed my eyes again and started to drift off to sleep.
The movement on my shoulder woke me up. I put my headphones behind my neck and looked over to the left and sat up a little. I carefully tried to shake her awake from whatever she was dreaming about. She shot up and pushed my hand away
"DON'T TOUCH ME!"
She ripped her headphones off and backed herself against the window. Must've been one helluva dream. I'm not a total dick. I wasn't going to just leave her alone like that. Her blue eyes were wide with fear and I actually didn't realize how blue they were until now.
"Hey...I'm not gonna hurt you. It's OK. Are you alright?"
She looked at me. She didn't trust me. I couldn't blame her. It's not like we knew each other at all. I just felt bad for her because she was obviously upset.
"You can trust me. I promise. I'm just trying to help. How about this...my name is Dean or you can call me Jon. It's up to you. What's yours?"
"Aaaaangela.....everyone calls me Angie."
I smiled trying to reassure her that I wasn't there to hurt her, but it didn't seem like she was buying it. "Hi Angie"
She shyly half smiled "Hi"
I reached out and tried to move a strand of hair that had fallen in her face and she backed away. Clearly someone doesn't like to be touched. So I took her trembling hands in mine. She tried to pull away and I held on tighter and shook my head
"Relax. I just want you to calm down. I'll leave you alone after that....promise. It was just a dream...whatever it was."
She started to calm down a little so I loosened the grip on her hands.
"What was the dream about?"
She ripped her hands away from me and glared at me for a second, put her earphones back on and turned away and stared out the window.
"You're welcome" I said in a huff as I put my earphones back on.
I put my head back and was about to close my eyes. I looked over and saw her wipe her cheek and now I felt like an asshole. I sighed and took the earphones back off and tapped her shoulder. She took off her headphones, turned and looked up at me.
"Angie...look...I'm sorry if I offended you or said something to upset you. I was just trying....to..."
Before I could even finish what I was saying she crashed her lips to mine. The bus jerked to a halt and my eyes flew open. "What the fuck?" I looked around and saw her quickly exiting the bus. Did I dream that or did that really happen? I got up and threw my bag over my shoulder and started to leave. I reached the bottom step and she was already gone and inside the building.
