Your POV
I was hiding in a tree, sitting on a branch. Below, I could see the entrance to the pavilion. Campers were starting to file in for lunch. It was a sunny day with little to no clouds in the sky. And here I was, sitting on a tree branch, stalking my prey. And then I saw my best friend, with his messy black curls and impish grin, Leo Valdez sprinted to the pavilion.
I smirked at him. Before he could enter, I summoned the grass around his feet to grow and tangle themselves on his ankles. He fell face first on the ground, causing me to laugh at him. He got up and tried to move, but his feet were still stuck to the ground.
"(Y/n)!" He called out.
I leaned back from the branch so I could hang upside down. My shirt was tucked into my shorts so I wouldn't accidentally flash the camp. He scowled when he saw me beside him, hanging upside down from the low branch.
"Hey, Leo!" I said innocently. "What's up?"
"Your grass is up my ankles," he said.
"Aww," I said as I gracefully leaped out of the branched and landed beside him. "That's too bad."
"Come on, (y/n), I'm hungry! You do not want to see Leo hungry," he said referring to himself in third person.
"Leo, you're always hungry."
He looked at me with puppy eyes, which only made me roll my eyes at him.
"I'll let you go," I said, "but we're going somewhere."
He groaned at my offer. "I'm hungry, (y/n)!"
"Trust me on this, McShizzle." I willed the grass to let go of his ankles and I pulled him to the direction of the strawberry fields.
It was already high noon. Apollo's sun chariot was directly overhead. We reached the top of one of the hills overlooking the valley of strawberry fields. After a lot of hardwork, the strawberries were finally big and ripe. The bushes were filled with the fresh juicy fruits. The sun's rays reflected on the strawberries, making them look more vibrant than usual. The entire valley was filled with green and red.
Leo's eyes widened at the sight before him. "Wow," was all he managed to say.
"Come on," I pulled him down the hill to a small patch of carnations. I carefully navigated the patch, trying not to step on the flowers, until I reached the center, where a small space was open. It was hard to see this space from afar. I sat down on the grass and Leo followed suit. I took out a magic ice box hidden amongst the flowers. It immediately fills itself with food and drinks we want.
"Woah," Leo said. "How did I not know about this spot?"
"It's my patch," I said. "I planted the flowers to look like an ordinary patch. Then I hid this icebox here so no one would find it. It's my favorite spot in camp. If I lie down here, no one would even see me."
I picked up (f/f) from the ice box and a can of (f/d). We ate in silence, but I didn't mind. I loved being out here, with the wind in my hair and sunlight on my face, surrounded by vibrant plants and fresh air. I enjoyed the view of the strawberry fields as we ate. I thought Leo would enjoy this too, but I felt his eyes staring at me.
I turned my head to look at him. Was I boring him? Should I have just left him alone?
"You alright?" I asked.
"Yeah, I-uh," he stammered. "I just realized something."
"What is it?"
He looked out into to fields as if thinking about what he was going to say. "Why'd you bring me here?"
"Because the strawberries are beautiful and the sun is up making them more beautiful and—"
"I meant," he cut me off. He had a small smile on his face. "Why'd you bring me here?"
I looked at him confused. "Because you're my best friend.
"You could've just went alone."
"Yeah, but—"
"You could've picked anyone else."
"Yes," I said. "But you're my best friend. It's not like I have a boyfriend or anything."
He mumbled something to himself. His face was as red as the strawberries, I was afraid he might spontaneously combust. Literally.
"What did you say?" I asked.
"I said," he said nervously, "I could be your boyfriend."
My expression changed from confusion to shock. "Are you asking me out, Valdez?"
He looked away and started to get up, but I willed the flowers to hold him down. He was now lying on his back. I lay on top of him, our noses touching. My (e/c) eyes stared into his dark brown ones. I smirked when I saw beads of sweat form at his forehead.
"Answer the question, McShizzle."
He sighed. "Yeah," he said. "I really like you. I think I even love you."
"You think?"
"Okay, okay! I love you. And our friendship is ruined by now so if you could tell your little flora friends to let me go, I'll be on my way."
It was high noon and sunlight shined over the entire field, but like I said, you could lie down on this patch and no one would see you.
Instead of letting him go, I pressed my lips against his, which took him by surprise. When he got over his shock, he kissed back. I willed the flowers to let go of him. Once his hands were free, his arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer to him. My hands brushed through his soft curls.
I pulled away and sat up and he did the same. He pecked my lips and reached for a red carnation.
"May I?" He asked. I nodded and helped him pick the flower without hurting it too much.
He tucked the flower behind my ear. I took another flower and did the same to him.
"You look adorable. You should wear flowers more often," I said jokingly, but he really did look adorable.
He took my face in his hands and leaned his forehead against mine. "You haven't answered my question, beautiful."
"I don't recall you actually asking me," I said back.
He giggled and pecked my lips. We were both blushing hard at this point.
"Will you be my girlfriend, (y/n)?"
"That depends," I said. "Will you still be my best friend even if you're my boyfriend?"
He nodded vigorously. "Yes! Hell yes! Oh gods, please say yes."
I giggled at him as I got up.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I've got a date," I said. "And it involves picking some fresh strawberries with my new boyfriend. Unless he has other plans, then—"
"No, no!" He said with a wide smile on his face. "I mean I'm sure he has no plans and he definitely would love to go strawberry picking with you. Assuming he can also eat the strawberries." He looked at me with puppy eyes.
"Fine," I said as I pulled him along. "Let's go get our dessert!"
Red was always his favorite color, and now it's mine, too. Red was the day I fell in love with my best friend, with red carnations and red strawberries. Not even Hera can take this memory away us.
