Part 22 - New dragon species? -

We start flying to the coordinations. I look around the sky, on guard for anything suspicious. Thunder shakes his head and yawns. - We can go down to that island down there if you guys are tired, I think it's going to take about a day before we get there. I say and they nod and we land softly. Luna walks around the place, making sure it's safe for a little.

Snow lays down on the ground and closes her eyes. I watch the sunset with Thunder and smile slightly. - It's weird, thinking about our lives and what has happened to us.. I whisper to him. "We haven't had the easiest life, but we are stronger than we would be if we stayed at Berk." he answers and I agree. - Do you miss Berk? After all, you've lived there most of your life.. "Sometimes I can miss it, but I like it better out here, free." - Right, you are a wild animal after all. I sigh a little before looking behind to see Luna has returned.

- Was it safe? I ask her and she nods and lays down to sleep. - Go get sleep you too, we have a long flight tomorrow. He nods and walks over to the two females.
Morning
I wake up and look at the black wing covering me and I chuckle softly. - Can you let me out Thun? I ask and he snorts at the nickname but opens his wing so I can get out. I fall down on the ground the moment I step out. I groan and brush the snow away. How did I forget that the ground is full of snow and ice? I shake my head and stand up with the help of Thunder.
"You're so clumsy, jesus." He says and I roll my eyes. - Tell me about it. I look around and see that Luna is not here. "Mother went to get food, she'll be back soon." Snow says and I nod.

Luna lands 20 minutes later and puts down the food and we all eat it up. We take off when we're done and we get to the island at night.

I jump gracefully off and land. The dragons join me down on the ground. I take my fire sword out and lit it up. I look around before walking after a road. Thunder starts to smell around and the two females do so too. I lift an eyebrow. - What is it? I ask. "You don't smell it? It smells horrible." Luna says and I try to smell the air and I cover my nose when it hits.
- What the hell happened here? I whisper and run to where the smell is the strongest. I stop hardly, nearly falling down the cliff. I gasp when I see fire surrounding a dragon.
- It looks like he is.. I close my eyes before I slide down to the fire. "He is dead.." Snow says and puts her ears backwards. "That's why the smell is so harsh and horrible, he's been dead for over a month and is starting to rotten.." Thunder says and I feel tears threatening to come out.

I feel sweat on my forehead and I hiss. The fire threatens to come closer and I back up when it breaths towards me. Thunder puts his wing in front of me so I don't get hit, they all are immune to fire after all. - What are we gonna do? He might be the last of his kind! I say a little loudly since the fire is making my voice a little weaker and they might not hear me clearly. "We should try to stop the fire, we don't want it taking over the island." Snow says and I nod. - Go get water somehow, I'll try to stop it from spreading any further. "I'll try to get other dragons here to help." Luna says and I nod and they fly off.

I try to stop the flames from spreading, but I'm only one person and the flames are a lot for me to handle. I hear lots of roars and I see a flock of dragons coming here to help. I sigh relived. They help us to put out the flames and after it's gone they leave. I feel my feet giving up on me and I fall on the ground for the second time, just that the ground isn't full of snow. The dragons land beside me and they nuzzle me softly. I grunt and stand up with their help. I run towards the big dragon and start to look after wounds.

I smaller my eyes when I don't find anything.
- Someone has had to do this, I doubt he just fell down and died, how did the fire start? I ask and hiss. The dragons grimace and the smell goes in my nose again and I feel like throwing up. I look at the dragons face and climb up towards his eyes. I open them up to study them. I write stuff about it in my book. I jump down again and start to draw him.
- What kind of dragon is he?.. he looks a lot like a snaffle-fang. I say and they nod. "He looks like a mixture between a snaffle-fang and maybe some other we don't know about yet?" Thunder asks and I look at him more closely and I realize he is right.

I write some stuff I've found out about him.
- I wish he was alive.. we could ask him about stuff.. I whisper softly, trying to keep myself from crying. - You can't bring him back, can you? I ask Luna and she shakes her head.
"He has been dead for too long.." I nod understanding. She is powerful but even her powers are limited.. I walk around to search for any clues but the fire has burnt the place down. I let a tear fall before I see something and I run towards it.

I see a nest and a dragon egg. - Guys! I yell and they come over and sees the egg. "That dragon is not going to survive without a parent.." Luna says and her instincts takes over and she goes over to keep it warm. I scratch her softly. Thunder growls softly at the sight. I turn to look at the dead dragon. - What happened with its mother tho?.. I ask, confused. "She might have left when everything happened, she might've not handled it well, it's difficult to see your partner die." Luna says with a sad voice and I get more sad when remembering what happened with Midnight. She knows that feeling all too well..

I walk closer to the egg and she lets me take it to look at it. - It looks more like a whispering death egg than a snaffle-fang. I say and they shrug a little. I draw the egg and compare it to both of the eggs. - Hmm.. I wonder which its going to look like more.. I put it back in the nest and Luna continues to keep it warm.

After an hour of inspecting the island to try to find out what happened we are no wiser.
The dragons are flying around the place so I'm all alone when I hear something behind me. I slowly turn around to see a big whispering death stare at me. She roars out loudly and I cover my ears. "She doesn't want to hurt you!" Luna yells and flies over to the angry dragon. "She got information about this place and wanted to figure out what was here, she doesn't want to hurt anyone!" She says and the WD growls. Luna is glowing light pink.

"Why are you protecting her..?" The dragon asks and Luna smiles softly. "She's my rider, and friend." The bigger dragon growls at me and I put my hand out to her. - I'm a friend.. I just wanted to know what happened here, and to your mate, if he is of course. She snorts and ignores my hand. "You're not going to find anything here." She says and I lift an eyebrow. - What do you mean with that? I ask her and she comes down to me. "He ate some stuff that wasn't good for him, I don't know what it was." I look up at Luna and she nods.
- Thanks, we'll go and check it out, where did he eat it?" "The big island, ten minutes from here to the east." I nod thankfully before running up a cliff and then jumping on Luna.

She calls for the others. "What's up?" Thunder asks when they get to us. - We found out something, we have to get to an different island. He looks at me confused and I start to explain to them both. "So the mother came back?" Snow asks. - She did, hopefully they are gonna be safe. I say and they nod. "Should we go then?" Luna asks and we agree and fly towards the island.
