GIOVANNI WOKE UP in need of a cold shower.
Last night did not go the way he expected. The man he killed deserved it. He had been selling women and children in the black market even against the advising of the Lazaro family. He was a close informant of the family who had betrayed them and gone into business that went against the Lazaro's values.
Sure, they sold drugs and guns and killed people but they were all people that deserved it. Trafficking was a sin, in the eyes of the Lazaro Family.
What had thrown him off the most from the night before was the fact that Kalani had witnessed the exchange. The result? He could barely call it a screaming match between them considering she did most of the yelling, but the fact that she knew of his father surprised him.
He racked his brain, trying to think about how she would've figured it out. It was only after her trip to the pool that she brought it up, easily giving him his answer. He told himself to pull Sofia aside and get the answer to his question.
He was also shocked at the fact that she had apologized for something that had nothing to do with her. She had nothing to do with her brother's stupid/dangerous actions. As much as Giovanni wanted to be stoic and show no emotion, when she broke down in front of him, his feelings that he'd pushed below the surface came rushing to him. He couldn't stop himself from holding her.
A part of him was against feeling something for this girl. How was he? He'd really only known her for a week. But there was just something about her that threw him off. No matter how many times he tries to be emotionless and remain stoic, her voice and her actions bring him back down to earth and shows him that this is his reality.
But then again, he is to blame considering he stole her away from her natural life. He was, honestly, surprised at the fact that she'd gotten so comfortable so quickly in an unfamiliar setting.
One thing he realized about Kalani is that she knew the right words to hurt someone.
But Giovanni knew how to hide the hurt.
What happens from here on out is up to them.
