Riley's POV
"What do you want for Christmas?" James asks me at our lockers the next day as we get ready for our next class.
"What do mean?" I ask.
"What do you want me to get you for Christmas?" He asks again. I sigh.
"Nothing." I mumble.
"C'mon Ri. I can't get you nothing." He says using arm gestures.
"Sure you can. It's not that big a deal." I tell him.
"Yes it is. I want to get you something special." He tells me, pulling a strand of hair from my face. I sigh heavily.
The truth was, if James got me something nice and expensive, than I would have to get him something like that too. And that's way out of my budget.
"Is it because you can't get me something?" He asks quietly. I nod sadly.
"Ri, you don't have to get me anything." He says sweetly.
"Yes I do." I sigh. "I can't let you get me something while I have nothing for you."
"I don't care Riley. I get lots of stuff, so it doesn't matter if I don't have anything from you." He explains.
"You have been such and amazing boyfriend. I can't get you nothing." I say, starting to get frustrated. Than te bell rings.
"Sure you can." He says, pecking my lips. "Bye."
"Well bye." I sigh.

Instead of paying attention in history class, I spent most of my time doing calculations in my head.
I knew I had to give a gift to my father. After all he's done for me, I can't not give him something. I will have to give something to Emily too. Nothing big, just something practical.
But what I was going to get James kept floating into my head. What do you get a seventeen year old boyfriend who can have everything that they want on a very minimum budget?
