Riley's POV
I didn't understand why James just ignored me when I told him I loved him. He always says it back. It's not like it was a big deal if he said it back. The only people that were around was his own friends. Was he embarrassed of me?
"Hey James?" I speak up. He stops talking to Eldon and looks at me.
"Yeah?" He inquires.
"Can we go somewhere alone to talk for a minute?" I ask.
"Oh, alone huh? What do you plan on doing alone?" West asks, mocking me. James looks from me to West.
"Um, we can talk later Ri. Okay?" He says.
"Oh, yeah. Sure." I reply quietly.

At the end of the day, I still hadn't talked to James alone. It was like he was trying to avoid me. I had to stay for a minute after English class to ask my teacher something about an essay we had to write, but James told me he would wait by our lockers for me.
I walked down the hallway to our lockers and seen James talking to Ashley. She was giggling and laughing at everything he said while he smiled broadly at her.
It hurt. It had been on my mind for awhile. Me and James have been together for awhile now, and lately I have just been expecting and mentally preparing myself for James to break up with me. It could be any day now. I had faith in James that he had changed his player ways, but you can never be so sure. And this was starting to look like an example.
I walked down the hall towards the two. I never made a sound, and let my face change into a blank expression.
"Oh, hey Riles." James says as he see's me.
"Hi." I reply quietly.
"You ready to go?" He asks.
"Yes." I reply.
"Okay, let's go than." He replies.
"Bye James." Ashley says, batting her eyelashes at him.
"Yeah, see you." He replies, giving her a small wave. We walk down the hall together, when James tries to put his arm around me. I push him off.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"Nothing." I reply, staring straight ahead.
"Why'd you push me away then?" He asks.
"Because maybe I don't want your arm around me." I reply in a sassy tone.
"Well fine." He mutters. We walk out the doors and got into his truck. I put on my seat belt and waited for him to start driving. But he never.
"Aren't you going to drive?" I ask.
"What happened back there?" He asks.
"What do you mean?" I question.
"You acting cold, you wouldn't let me touch you. What's wrong with you?" He asks.
"What's going on between you and Ashley?" I ask.
"What? Nothing. There's nothing going on between me and Ashley!" He replies sternly.
"Are you sure about that?" I snap.
"Yeah I am! And as my girlfriend I would think that you would believe and trust me!" He fires back.
"Well that's hard to do when I know that you still like her!" I growl.
"I do not still like her! If I still liked her I'm sure I wouldn't be dating you!" He snaps back.
"Well it doesn't seem like you like me right now!" I tell.
"Well maybe because I don't like you right now!" He screams, hitting the steering wheel. It was silent until he turned to me, a terrifying look in his eyes.
"Get out!" He yells.
"What? James-"
"Get out! Now! Go! Get out!" He yells even louder. I glare and step out of the truck and into the pouring rain.
"I hate you!" I scream at him.
James's POV
"I hate you!" Riley screams at me.
"I hate you too!" I scream back. There was a minute where she kind of gasped, and that's when I realized what I had just said. But she turned around and ran. It was raining hard and it was cold. But she kept running away.
"God!" I yell in anger, hitting the steering wheel again. That's when I felt the hot tears running down my face.
Riley's POV
The rain felt like hail in my eyes. But the teardrops streaming down my face just looked like raindrops.
I was stupid. I had no idea why I just freaked at him, and it was the worst decision I ever made. It wasn't even a decision. It just happened.
I glanced over my shoulder, and seen James's truck coming behind me. I stopped in my tracks as he began to slow down as he neared closer to me. We made eye contact for mere seconds, before he picked up his speed some more, and kept driving. I stood still, in shock that he would just leave me. Until I see him stop completely a few feet in front of me. I stand still, waiting for him to start driving again any minute until I realize that he's stopped for me.
I run through the rain, to the truck. I swing open the door and climb in as fast as I can.
I'm soaking wet, and probably look like a drowned rat, but that doesn't stop us from crashing our lips together the minute that we can.
"I'm so sorry baby, you know I never meant what I said." James said, jerking away from my lips.
"I know, and I'm sorry too. Everything I said was stupid, and I don't know why I said it. I'm really sorry." I respond. We lean our foreheads together.
"I love you, more than words can describe. Don't ever forget that." James whispers.
"I love you too, with all my heart." I reply.
