Riley's POV
"Ugh!" I grumble as I yank on the combination lock, hopelessly trying to get it open.
"Alright, let's try this again." I mutter under my breath. "21-07-
Before I could finish, I felt a pair of hand slip their way around my waist. My heart stopped when I felt hot breath down my neck, and someone whisper in my ear,
"So babe, when's our second date?"
I spin around on my heels and see James.
"You nearly gave me a heartattack!" I snap at him. He chuckles.
"You never answered my question. When's our second date babe?" He asks again. I glare at him.
"Let me get this through your head." I say slowly. "I am not your babe, and I am not going on another date with you!" I snap.
"Why not?" He asks.
"Because, you clearly promised me that after our 'I'm sorry I was a jerk and purposely spilled hot coffee on you' date, you would never speak to me again." I remind him.
"Yeah, but that was before I got to know you and..." He leans closer and whispers in my ear,
"...And before I found out what a great kisser you are."
I blush a deep red.
"Look James, I just don't want to be one of those girls." I sigh.
"What girls?" He asks.
"You date a girl, tell her you love her, then you break her heart and move onto the next one." I tell him.
"For your information, I never told a girl I actually loved her before." He replies, acting smug.
"Oh, how nice of you." I say, rolling my eyes. I turn to walk away, but James quickly grabs my wrist, and spins me around.
"Look, my friend West is having this huge party tonight. Can you at least, come with me to it?" He asks.
"Didn't you hear me? I'm never going on another date with you!"
"It's a party with a bunch of, loud, drunk teenagers! Not really a romantic scene." He chuckles. I sigh.
"Fine, I'll go. But only because I don't have to work tonight, and I have nothing else to do!" I say defensively.
"Whatever you say babe!" He chuckles as he walks away.
"Do not call me babe!" I pout

James's POV
After four agonizing hours in the classroom, it was lunch. I saunter into the cafeteria. Girls call out my name, as I walk past. They blush and squeal and smile. I see Riley talking with a girl named Chloe.
"H-hi James!" Chloe says nervously as I come near them.
"Hey Riley." I say with a smirk as I walk past. I see Riley roll her eyes. I approach Eldon and West, who were sitting at 'our' table.
"Hey guys." I greet them as I take my spot.
"Hey man." They reply. West looks past me and looks at Riley and smirks.
"How's your girlfriend?" He asks.
"Riley's not my girlfriend." I tell him. "Yet."
"She needs to be your girlfriend for you to win the bet." Eldon reminds me stupidly.
"Yeah, I'm very aware of that." I say slowly.
"So, have you told Stephanie or Michelle or anyone about the bet?" I ask them.
"No, we decided to make this bet into a little experiment." West says. "Let's see how many people will believe that the captain of the football team fell in love with the pathetic nerd."
"She's not pathetic, and she's not a nerd." I snap at him defensively.
"Woah man, calm down." Eldon says.
"Sorry, it's just that..." I trail off.
"That, you actually like Riley?" West asks.
"What? No! Ew! You're right, she is pathetic, and a nerd." I confirm. They smile approvingly.
