Mason and I did not really speak after that night but it clearly still effected him, to a point where he could not focus on the field.
We were down by ten with a few minutes left and playing for a touch down. It felt weird watching from the stands and not the field but no matter where people were seated, everyone could see that Mason was no in the game. Making mistake after mistake and it was going to cost USF the game.
We lost the game and Coach was handing Mason's his ass in front of everyone, not even waiting until they got into the locker room. That was cruel.
I waited outside the locker room and Mason came out quickly, surprised when he saw me "Hey."
"Hey." I said just as surprised "Did you not shower?" I asked because he was out way too quickly.
"You saying I stink?" He asked before smelling himself "okay, maybe a bit."
"You wanna eat away your problems?"
"Definitely, I thought Coach was going to kick me off the team after that."
"He looked like he was going to."
We pulled up to McDonalds and Mason did a Athletes hack for not smelling so bad after a game and it actually worked.
"Better?" He asked changing his shirt as well.
"I never said that you stink." I said watching him go through all this trouble, when he did not smell that bad to start with or I was just use to being around smelly athletes.
We walked into McDonald's and Mason ordered enough food to feed a family and that was just his order. We sat down after getting our food and he immediately started eating.
"You're going to get fat." I said watching him eat.
"Me?" He asked as he lifted up his t-shirt exposing his perfectly chiseled abs, I think that was more than six. How is this guy getting hotter "I think I'm fine."
"I think you're fine." I said and he just chuckled, dropping his shirt.
"You think you can stop checking me out or daydreaming about me?"
"I don't daydream about you."
"But you didn't deny that you check me out."
"Can't I admire my boyfriend's body?"
"Oh really?" He said with a huge grin as I giggled.
We finished our food. Yes, Mason finished all his food, which was about three burgers with a large fries, a ten piece nuggets and chicken tenders. He shared the nuggets and tenders, so I'm happy.
We drove to the beach and walked up the lifeguards tower, standing on top, watching the waves.
It was calm. The only sound coming from the waves crashing. The beach was always our getaway, whenever things got tough we would go to the beach.
"Mason, are you okay?" I asked breaking the silence.
He chuckled at my question before licking his lips.
"Not really."
"Do you want to speak about it?"
"I probably should, hey?." He said hopping to sit on the railing, while I leaned up against the rail to the side of him "My mom is getting divorced again and not that I care but now she feels lonely and wants to reach out to her lovely son." He said sarcastically with a fake smile that disappeared a few seconds later.
"So, why were you so emotional?" I asked confused.
If he does not care about his stepdad or their marriage then why was he crying? Something just did not make sense.
