Back at home with warm hugs, genuine smiles and great cooking. Sitting down in the kitchen. Short curly hair and warm brown eyes as she spoke and danced around the kitchen, happy that I was home. I was happy even if it was just for a bit.
"I made breakfast, well supper. I made breakfast for supper, you want some?" My mom asked smiling at me.
"Yes, please"
"You seem different, kind of sad. Is everything okay, sweetheart?" My mom asked placing a plate in front of me and sitting down opposite me at the counter.
"Uhm I don't really want to speak about it." I said focusing on the plate of goodness in front of me "Mom, can I ask you a question but it's kind of personal?"
"Sure, honey."
"How did you know that dad was the one?"
"I didn't really, I just had a feeling and I gave it chance."
"Weren't you scared of getting hurt?"
"Hurting is part of it. Your father wasn't always the best boyfriend or husband but he is a great father and I'm glad that I made the choice that I did."
"Did dad ever cheat on you?"
"Once. We were dating for about two years at the time and his ex came back into the picture."
"And you forgave him?"
"I loved your father and would have done anything for him. I knew he regretted it and that he was sorry and I gave him a second chance. If I never gave him that second chance I would have never had you."
"Do you still love dad?"
"Of course, we're not the same we were when we were younger but we still love each other. Sweetheart, did something happen with a guy?"
"Do you remember Mason?"
"The McConner kid? Yeah, the two of you use to be so close."
"Yeah, well he transferred to USF this semester."
"Oh, so the two of you are friends?" She asked and I just continued playing with my food "More than friends?" She continued but I still played with me food, not looking at her.
She ran over to me, pulling me into a hug as tears rolled down my face. My mom never needed me to say anything, she always just knew.
"Kelly." My dad screamed joyfully as he walked into the kitchen and I ran into his arms. My parents and I were always close, they were more like friends than parents. "Honey, are you okay?" Dad asked wiping a tear of my cheek.
"I'm okay now." I said against his body. My dad was a big, soft, scary teddy bear of a man and the town's sheriff.
The door bell rang and my mom went to the door.
"Kelly it's for you!" Mom screamed from the door.
I walked to the door and it was Rachel. We have not spoken since that day, even though she tried to.
"I don't want to speak to you." I said blankly.
"Kelly, please? Just two minutes."
"One." I said walking outside and sitting on the steps.
Rachel opened her mouth to speak but got cut off by a car pulling up in front of the house.
"Justin?" Rachel and I said as he got out of the car.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him as he walked over to me but before he could answer Brandon pulled up and walked over to us as well.
Am I attracted to drama or something? Just one weekend drama free, that's all I asked for. Can this get any worse right now?
