It's been a long two weeks of studying and rehearsing for finals and for the end of semester show and it was an even longer semester but finals are finally over and last night was the last performance for the show. All I have to do now is pack and I'll be back home by tonight.
Sitting outside Dunkin was always peaceful, until campus got a Mason.
"Hey Rosen." A Mason said, inviting himself to sit at my table.
"Hey Mason."
"What are your plans for the holidays?"
I thought for a second before answering "I'm not sure, probably just spending time with my family. Why you asking? What's your plans?"
"I don't know. Mom's leaving for Spain soon and Dad's a jackass, so I might just leave with my mom."
"Well, you're always welcome at my house. You're still family." I said sincerely. He seemed sad.
"Yeah, no. I don't think that would be a smart idea."
I stopped for a second. What? Why could that possibly not be a smart idea?
"Why?" I asked.
"You're dad and I had somewhat of a falling out. So I'd rather not."
"Okay." I said, deciding that it is better not to ask questions.
He shifted uncomfortably before speaking "Uhm.. I - I wanted to ask you something."
I answered not thinking much about it "Yeah, okay."
"What's going on between you and Brandon?"
"Me and Brandon?" I asked surprised. "Why?" I asked giggling a bit.
"I'm serious." He said blankly and immediately my expression change. I knew exactly what kind of conversation we were having.
I sat up straight. Time for a serious talk.
"We chilling. I don't know, we slept together a few times but we're not dating, we're not together in any way."
Silence fall as we just looked at each other. He had his elbows on the table and his hands up to his face, just looking at me.
If someone was to ask me later what I was thinking I would not be able to answer because I have no idea why I'm saying what I'm about to say.
"Just ask the question that you came here to ask."
He chuckled before speaking "Okay. What are we?"
"Isn't that my job to ask questions like that? You know, me being the girl." I said teasing.
He chuckled "Woah, you can always expect Rosen to make a joke. Come on, I'm serious."
"I know. I just... I don't know what we are."
"What do you know?" He asked bluntly.
"I know that you're being rude." I burred out.
"I'm being rude? Okay, how about you try being honest. Would that work for you, Rosen?"
I stood up and slammed my hands on the table before speaking. "You want me to be honest? Fine, I don't trust you." I said.
"So you giving out blow jobs to all the guys you don't trust, or is it just me?"
"Actually half the school." I said sarcastically.
"I wouldn't put that past you." He said.
"Excuse me? And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"Exactly what it sounded like."
"You can go fuck yourself." I said before walking away but I stopped to the sound of his voice.
The fucking nerve on this guy.
"Stop! Please?" He screamed and I stopped.
I turned around immediately speaking "You have three second to say something that isn't stupid or I'm leaving."
He looked down at the table before returning to my face "I like you."
"And calling me a slut is how you show that?"
He never answered, which seemed good because I had time to calm down.
I sat down opposite him again before speaking.
"You're really one with the ladies, hey? You always know just what to say." I said sprinkling some sarcasm "I know how hard this is for you so you still have three second."
He did a slight chuckle before speaking " Let's stop fighting and just be honest with each other. I fucked up and I'm sorry but I've been trying so hard with you but when it comes to Brandon, he has to do absolutely nothing to get you in his arms. I get that you don't trust me but will you ever?"
"Mason-"
"No, Kelly! Will you ever trust me?"
I felt overwhelmed, anxious, nervous. I don't know what I was feeling but I was scared.
"I don't know." I said.
"Kelly!" He screamed, he was definitely not calm anymore.
"No." I said as my voice cracked and my face felt warm.
"So that's that right? You'll never trust me, so I'm just wasting my time pretending that things will be okay."
"I like you, I just-" I said but got cut off.
"Don't want to get hurt. I mean I can't blame you. I built this reputation and I started speaking to you so that you could fall for me but that shit backfired so fast and Brandon just had to fuck it up."
"You messed it up way before Brandon got involved."
Did I seriously just say that out loud? Am I serious? Why would I say that?
"Yeah, you right. So since that's what I'm good at, let's do it a bit more." He said sounding like his usual self.
I'm scared.
"I like you, Kelly. I don't want to be friends, I don't want to take it slow. I know that's what we agreed on but fuck that and babe, I know you feel the same way. When we were in the shower, are you really going to say that you didn't feel anything for me? If you say no then that's a damn lie." He said calmly.
"Obviously I'm attracted to you. I just can't date you."
"Well that's a damn shame because I'm not doing friends with benefits, I'm not going to be a fuck buddy, I'm not a late night call, I'm not anything like that. You're either down for me or you're not."
I took a second before answering. He was hurt and every inch of my body was telling me not to do this, every inch of my heart but for once I had to use my head.
I got up slowly still looking at him as he watched me. I took a deep breathe in before speaking.
"Then I guess this is goodbye."
