bare [h.s.]

Nightmare

Green eyes pierce through mine as a devilish grin spreads
wide across rough skin.
This man,
or creature,
resembles Harry in many ways,
but the way he looks at me,
creeps toward me with
evil thoughts running through his head, tells me otherwise.

"Lovely, lovely," he whispers,
sending chills down my spine.
He takes small, planned steps
in my direction.
I carefully watch him make his way
and hold my breath when his cold
hand caresses my cheek.

"Harry--" I begin, pulling away
from his frigid touch.
Just as I escape his hand,
they are back on my body
in a matter of seconds.

"Stop moving!"
Harry's lengthy fingers pull
at the waistband of my pants.
I place my palm on his wrist,
studying his face for some sign
of misunderstanding.
But his face,
once that of a friend,
contorts into that of Elijah.
His grin grows quickly as
he pushes me to the ground.

"You don't want to do this,"
I cry, my words barely audible.
"Please, please."
But my begging is no use.
Those pathetic pleas
won't stop his harsh hands
from grabbing my body.

My nails dig into his neck
and he lets out a blood-curdling
scream as I continue to claw
his skin.

My body jerks up in a quick motion, pulling me
from the dream
that felt too real.
Soon Harry wakes and sits up
beside my shaking bones.

"What is it? What's wrong?"
He asks many times as I choke
on my own breath.

"You, Elijah," I cry,
throwing myself into Harry's arms.
"Tell me it's not real,"
I say into his chest,
sensing his confusion growing.

"Look at me," he orders, pushing me back by my shoulders.
"What was it?"
His green eyes that stare at me now are nothing like those
in my dreams.
They are kind, understanding,
and I draw in one last breath to
calm myself fully.

"I'm just scared," I state quietly
as he continues to look at me.
With furrowed brows, he brings me into his embrace once more.

"It's just a dream," He says, running a comforting hand
along my back.
But this nightmare
is more than real.
And I'm living it.
