[Inner's POV]
It's been a whole two more weeks since my breakup with my ex. A total of a month since Reign and I became quite close. Making it the second week of June now. I mean, we text on WhatsApp, we walk together on Sundays after church, he walks me home on Saturdays when he can. If he can't, he just walks me home over the phone. I didn't even know that you can do that but he does and I find it cute. Dinny and I are kinda not walk buddies anymore but only after school. Blame it on our different schedules.
I've never really been the type to study in a group. I prefer studying alone. And now that I've been struggling with my academic life, it means I have to make twice the effort to study. The only reason I don't use study groups is because I study differently. Others use your basic study skills.. Just read a book.. kinda approach. I literally have to read, understand, make examples, then summarize whatever it is that I've learnt. I always get scolded when I say I'm a slow learner. My classmates are like: 'If you were one, you wouldn't have been number one in top ten for a straight two years, quarter after quarter' but really, they don't understand my point.
It's been two weeks filled with Happy constantly nagging me about Reign and how we look good and cute together and what not. Two weeks filled with Reign and I going out. But not as a couple, not as friends but as spiritual partners. It all started after I confessed to him about my lagging academic life. He offered to help me out with my native language and first additional one's literature. He also included Economics and Business studies. More on the practical side though. He said it should prepare me for University. Either way, he has been of great help.
My academics are now showing slight improvement, my study tips are enhanced, I'm more focused on me.. That is on my spiritual growth and academic life. Honestly, now the Bible isn't just another book in the library or house, it's become one of my favorite as I can now relate to it. All thanks to Reign's coaching. It really surprised me when he offered academic help. Since he just said he majored in science in high school. But I could use all the help I could get.
I still remember the first time, which was two weeks ago.. When he started assisting me with my literature. I couldn't believe it. We went to dine at Steers for lunch on a Saturday. Well, I haven't been bunking Saturday classes. They were canceled for the time being. There was a lot of confusion around us continuing them, have extra classes or a school camp. Which would be new since our principal is new. We basically are her first grade 12 class. This is what has been happening for the past two weeks.
Flashback
Reign: "Hey happy Princess, how are you?" He asked into the phone because he called me on a Friday afternoon (After school that is).
Me: "Reign, hi😃.. I'm good thanks and yourself?" I asked him. Honestly, ever since I complained about him calling me Happy and Princess (yeah, I was confused about which one I liked the most), he started calling me happy Princess with happy being more of an adjective than a noun and Princess being my name.
Reign: "I'm good. Are we still on for tomorrow?" He asker because I had already agreed to his idea of helping me out. Well he just said 'I have this brilliant idea and I think it will help you out' one time, so I decided to give it a try.
Me: "LOL.. Yes. I still am." I replied to him. All I know is that he said we're going out. I told him I don't date and he was like 'Who said anything about dates and dating?' I felt so embarrassed. All I could wish was the earth to open up and swallow me whole.
Reign: "Great Princess. Please bring your short story book and nothing but the truth one as well." He said and I squealed at the thought of going to the library.
Me: "I'm so happy that I can't wait for tomorrow." I said while doing a happy dance.
Reign: "Great that you're happy Princess. I'll pick you up tomorrow but for now, I'll leave you to it." He said. I honestly knew that he also shifted his lunch break to two o'clock (14:00) so that he can walk me home over the phone on Fridays. I really appreciated his efforts.
Me: "Okay, cool. See ya." I said. Profusely blushing. I honestly never thought this kind of happiness was possible. I'm happy with him and we're not even an item.
Reign: "Tomorrow it is Princess." He said and hung up the call.
I know tonight we'll talk about the Word of God. He never let's anything personal disturb that time. He makes it a point to ask me or talk about me or him personally during the day or whenever he can. One thing I know, he respects time allocated to God's Word. And I love him for it.. Wait! "Love him?" what am I saying? 'No. You don't even like him. Where's the love word coming from now'? I think to myself. I'm blushing and trying to scold myself at the same time.
End of flashback
Since that Friday, things took a complete one eighty. I started feeling something for him and curse his level of observation but he noticed. It was something beyond what I could fathom. The dreams, conversations, what I saw. It was like God was communicating something with me. What? You ask me.. I don't know. The past four weeks have been a bliss. The latter two weeks in the four.. I can't really tell. They've been.. Well helpful is one of the words I can use to describe the weeks.
We went out like I've already mentioned. However we were far from the library. Like, legit restaurant far from the town library. I asked him why go to a restaurant with books, he just said I should relax. I told him, I would if we went to a library. He made a sly comeback that 'even if we went to a library Princess, were we gonna eat books?' I rolled my eyes and he continued saying 'this is like hitting two birds with a single stone' a response to which I scoffed and sighed in defeat.
I quickly caught up that he loves Steers more, so we became regulars there. We went there, ordered their King Steer burgers which came with fries and colas. Mind you.. I'm not the one for of eating at restaurants because I felt that I was being bought with food. So, it was a bit awkward. I still remember exactly how did we start this habit of going there every weekend. Honestly, I felt like a gold digger.
We usually prayed over our meal, then dined. Yeah.. We got odd looks as if praying for a meal was making out at a restaurant. But he told me never to compromise my faith just because I'm in public. After all, I wasn't forcing anyone to pray for their meal. Well, After that.. I became more confident in who I am. After dining, Reign would shift from his side of the booth to mine, take out whichever literature we were doing and he read them out to me, made side notes and explained the literature.
I honestly understood the work better than before. Scratch the fact that I would almost zone out while he read out to me. 'He'd definitely make a great dad one day. With all his passion for reading, I mean he even changes voices to make the literature real. He's like an audio book but a much needed one.' I always thought to myself. Moreover, I thought he'd make a perfect dad to my kids, as I imagined my beautiful kids. "Wait what!!?" I asked myself subtly in disbelief of what I just thought. Incase you're wondering, did this happen for the whole two weeks? Yes. It did.
I would zone out with different thoughts of him. He made a great husband figure, he cared for me. Not just spiritually but like a brother. He didn't nag or force me to tell him about my healing process, he just assisted me whenever and however I asked him to. I'm a Night owl, he's an early bird. He'd call and still does to wake me up to study (At night after my nap which was always after our phone call). He'd wake up earlier than me in the morning to wake me up even before my alarm went off. He literally called, when I picked up.. He'd tell me to use the washroom so I would fully be awake. Then hang up.
He made sure to leave me awake, every morning. I would then pray, go use the washroom and prepare myself for school. For the whole two weeks, we've been dining at Steers, learning there. After my learning session we'd have dessert then he'd walk me home. Sundays after church, he'd walk me home. During the week I'd always be astonished at his version of the verses we shared, testimonies and so forth. It's really been a bliss. However this gut feeling, hunch, intuition or whatever you want to call it never left me. It just kept on growing inside of me.
I couldn't fathom or shake it but what can I do. This coming week, Reign and I planned a day out to a park for June 16th. I'm so nervous, not for the day out but at the agenda for that day. I mean we both agreed on the agenda but now I'm starting to feel like it was a bad idea. I'm so nervous and it's not even the day yet...
