[Sunday]
[Third Person's POV]
Inner still had her 'praying duty' over her boyfriend's safe return from wherever he would be drinking. His mom and sisters loved her as their own. They would invite her to the house and even to church. She wasn't comfortable with going to other Churches especially on a normal Sunday. She believed her responsibility in her church preceded her 'different preaching styles' experience. Besides, she was planted in her Church.
Psalms 92:13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God.She woke up at her usual time, went over her weekly Sunday routine, headed to church. Performed few duties according to her roster and joined in for pre-service prayer. She was doing both kid's section and the door. She enjoyed every minute of it.
As deemed normal, there would be praise and worship as the service starts. Followed by the sermon. The end of the service. Then the cleaning... Praise and worship began. She did what she did best, being a dancer by heart, a singer by purpose and a deaconess by aspiring profession. All her gifts and skills she didn't want to waste else where. But use in church.
As the Pastor announced the sermon title, she saw people walking down the corridor up to her. It was irritating but she didn't complain. 'I mean how come we try by all means never to be late for school, or work.. But no. On Sundays, we can get late for church as if we're having a McDonald's lunch.' she thought to herself. She didn't hate her post nor duty, but she just found it hard to understand. Sure, emergencies don't select days when to erupt, but the same people late throughout the whole year? "But it's not your place to judge hun." She murmured to herself.
Standing up, she greeted and ushered the people in. Then returned to her seat. As she was about to take a seat, then she saw Reign down the outside corridor making his way to her. It was normal for her to sometimes not even take a seat as people would flood in one after the other. From late comers, those who went out to use the washrooms to those who excused themselves earlier on. Not that for the latter two she'd have to stand.
"Great. Just great." She said to herself rolling her eyes. 'I mean look at him. No doubt he's hot but.. Urgh! He comes here dressed like Pharrell Williams, Chris Brown or Drake, with those head phones. He comes late like no one cares, laughs abruptly inside church while we're being rebuked. What's wrong with wearing a suit and tie on Sunday? Well, he seems allergic to those.' Inner continued with her thoughts as she couldn't even murmur anything without the possibility of being heard by the approaching Reign. Not to mention the heat flashes she felt on her face while observing his features.
Finally, Reign stood by her, she ushered him with her deaconess smile. Don't get her wrong. She knew that her observations or opinions were for herself and that her responsibility preceded her personal vendetta or agendas. She clearly could do her duty without any fake smiles or whatsoever.
Going back and being seated on her seat, she continued with her thought rant from before. 'Yeah, he's definitely even more hot up close and personal but I'm going to label him as more of a you can look but you can't touch typa guy. I'd stare at him for a given time but definitely not the type to be with. No. Nope fam.' She kept on thinking about this guy and even making a decision that he's not her type. 'I still despise him.'
But was it him or just his behavior in church that she despised, or was she just too quick to conclude?
Getting her head back to the sermon, Ps Chris had been preaching or rather teaching about Spiritual warfare. The text was from Ephesians.
Ephesians 6:11-18
[11]Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
[12]For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
[13]Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
[14]Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
[15]For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
[16]In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
[17]Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
[18]Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. He taught about how we don't fight the people we see as they are merely vessels to a power but how we fight with the spirits and or principalities. That, since it's a spiritual warfare, the weapons we carry are to be spiritual. That we cannot fight principalities with what is physical. Like going to a war in the army but holding a knife, where the soldiers makes use of guns.
Every spiritual quality represents the armor that warriors should wear.
[14] Tightening yourself with truth as the belt. The opposing kingdom's prince is the father of all lies. But we Christians are to fasten our waists with the truth and put on the breast plate of doing the right thing.[15] We walk and run on God's peace which surpasses all human understanding (Philippians 4:7). Walking and running on peace, we block out storms of doubt, fear and circumstances. Like a caterpillar in it's cocoon, it does not have to worry about flying as a butterfly it's still in peace, because the whole world around it (Negativity, belittling etc) is blocked.
[16] Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is the opposite of sight. No matter how many soldiers are shot or die, the ones that are still able to fight do so till the end. Warriors are convicted in victory promised by the Word of God (substance), they fight the battle to the end as all they see is victory (evidence not seen).
[17] We take our salvation to protect our heads (minds, eyes, ears and mouths). Should we forget that we're saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8) we'll end up seeking vengeance hence we protect our heads with salvation. A sword is a weapon, we don't fight with guns nor bare hands, but with swords being God's Word. His Word precedes everything. (Psalm 119:89 Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.) If anything is above heaven then 🤷🏼.
[18] Christians are to take their battles on their knees. A territory where the enemy is vulnerable. As an eagle launches a snake to the sky in eagle versus snake fight, it does so to win the battle not just to have the upper hand, or rather claws. Christians should confuse the enemy in their heavenly language in their territory on battle ground. They're to pray for fellow brethren too and not just themselves and their families.
Sermon continued until it was time for the service to end. At the end of the service, Inner and her family in Christ from all ministries started to clean the church as was done every other Sunday.
