One thing is clear: I failed that goddammed exam. Mom's face, when I told her I had no clue how those exercises should have been resolved, was priceless. She was mad at me for stopping the tutoring sessions. I might have lied to her, well I couldn't just tell her how much of a slut her daughter is.
"Ms Y/N Y/L/N , you are asked to come to the principle office immediately." I hear my name being called through the speakers at school. Great! I scoff looking at Jenny and she looks worried. Well I bet they will lecture me about how much of a disappointment I am to this school.
I drag my feet to the office hoping that thing won't happen. I am in no mood to listen to the headmaster and pretending I am actually motivated by his words.
"Ms Y/L/N." I hear the principle starting as I politely enter the office. "Good morning, Mr Irwin." I say feeling an awkward sensation as I am staring at those creepy paints. "You know why you are here, don't you?" He gestures for me to sit down and I nod. "Well I have a guess." I give him a weak smile.
"I saw your exam papers" he almost laughs in my face. I look at a picture on his desk and don't say anything. "They are ... perfectly white, shall I say. Hmm" I swear if he's going to laugh again I will so leave this room.
I glare at him. "You're right. There's nothing funny here." He gives me his serious face and this one scares me more than the other one. "You, Ms Y/L/N, are a disgrace to our school. We afford no unprepared student in our school." He continues and I gulp facing the ground.
"I'm sorry, but I'll have to expell you." The heck is he doing ?!?!?!
"What?" I gasp. "You can't do that!" I raise my voice at him.
"Careful, young lady" he warns.
"Sorry, but on what basis?" I revolt
"What basis? You were the only student who didn't write anything on that sheet of paper. Not even your name!" He spits out his words at me.
"No ..that's not true." I whisper more to myself. I know I started an exercise ..but how can he tell me this. "Fu- ! Damn it Hemmings" I now talk to myself.
"What was that?" Mr Irwin asks "nothing." I shake it off. How on earth will I tell my mom that ?! She will freak out.
"Are you laying the blame on Mr Hemmings, your math teacher?"
Well it was his fault ..after all. But I can't say anything.
"Very well then." Irwin is heading to his phone and presses a button. "Lenny, bring Mr Hemmings in please." "Right away sir." I hear the secretary's voice on the phone line .
"You will tell me what was the problem with your teacher as witness." I hate this headmaster. Fuck this shit. I'm so out of air.
I see Luke opening the door and his eyes go full wide as he sees me. "Morning!" He salutes looking suspicious.
"Good morning, Mr Hemmings. Now you may wonder why I asked for you... this young lady here says it's your fault she failed the exam." I just look on the floor, Luke's horrified face expression makes me wanna die. He probably thinks I told Mr Irwin something.
"I didn't say it like that." I try to excuse in a foolish way. Luke is just standing shocked there like a lighting had struck him.
"You didn't, did you? Now tell me, how was Mr Hemmings' fault that you didn't study enough for this exam?" He asks masterfully.
"I -I ... I just don't think it's fair to expell me for failing this exam. Shit happens. But don't tell me no one ever failed their exam." I speak up my mind. Either way I'm getting expelled so fuck this shit.
Luke is now even more shocked. I guess he wasn't aware of my expelling.
"Watch your mouth." The principle says and I roll slowly my eyes.
"Wait. Mr Irwin, can I have a private word?" Hemmings is speaking ladies and gentlemen.... well I didn't think that will happen soon.
"Of course! Y/N, wait outside!" They tell me and I close the door gluing my ears to it.
"You can't actually think of a real expulsion." Luke says and that warms my heart a little. "Of course I am."
"You know she doesn't deserve it." I hear them talk and Lenny is staring at me.
"It's not nice to do that!" She says. "Shhh"
I don't care.. I need to hear this.
"Come on, Ashton ... don't do this!" Wow Mr Hemmings is actually calling the principle by his first name. That's odd.
"Mr Hemmings, we are still at work and I'd like you to adress me as your boss, not as your friend." I guess Mr Irwin is such a pain in the ass.. and I can't believe they are friends.
"But you are my friend though.." Luke says. "It's not our fault she failed the exam."
Silence raises and I hope Luke will still try talk him out of my expulsion. I can't believe he's actually doing it.
"But she only failed one exam, you can't expell her for that."
"Mr Hemmings may I remind you who is the principle here? ... she is a disgrac-"
"Disgrace my ass. You of all people should understand best. May I remind you who of us failed not one, but two of their exams?" I hear Luke whispering and I don't think I heard that correctly.
I hear nothing but silence. Until Lenny picks up her phone and I hear Mr Irwin calling for me.
I try to pretend I didn't just hear that.
"So?" I start inpatient.
"Your teacher and I discussed and I decided you should not be expelled for just that." I actually let out the breath I didn't know I was holding.
I see Luke smirking to himself "Oh my, thank goodness." I smile "But-" me and Luke both look confused to Irwin.
"Mr Hemmings will have to tutor you so we can make sure you won't fail again." Damnnn! I snap my head to Luke and his eyes go wide as fuck.
"You'll have the lessons, here at school. During the whole summer. And I will be here also to make sure you actually come." Mr Irwin is turning his head to me. Yeah ..awesome!
Luke wants to say something "End of discussion." He's now facing Luke. Hemmings gulps and I nod. "You are both free to leave" Mr Irwin turns to his chair and we both get out.
I'm walking on the hall with him, both of us staying quite.
"Thank you .. for earlier. I don't know what you told him to make him change his mind ..but thanks. I know you didn't have to do it." I say feeling awkward.
Luke chuckles and I furrow my brows.
"I know you heard us and yes I had to do it. You didn't deserve it and I can't afford to-" he stops himself and now I want to know what can't he afford.
"To what?" I ask. "Never mind. Be here at 12. We'll have to come here every day this summer ..at least until you take your exam again." He says and sounds so annoyed. Shit I hope I don't annoy him.
"Ok. Thank you again!" I smile at him amd he nods. He goes to his class and I jear him excusing himself. I don't return to history ..I'm not in the mood anymore.
This summer will be torturing ...
