Wanting Him (Neji fanfic)

*Note: The reader and Neji are both fifteen in this. Don't forget to play the song while you are reading**

Kaoru was standing outside the Hyuga estate early one morning. Waiting for Neji to finish his morning training. But instead of hearing the usual sounds of fighting coming from inside Kaoru heard nothing but silence. Kaoru was tempted to open the door and try to find out what was happening. Kaoru had been about to open the door preparing for what may lie ahead when Hinata opened the door. "Oh Kaoru-san it's nice to see you", she stuttered bowing toward me while looking down.

   "Hinata I already told you there is no need to be so formal. I'm not that much older than you. Just call me Kaoru"

  She nodded still looking down somewhat. "Okay Karou", she said.

   "Hinata I was wondering if you happen to know where Neji is?"

"Oh, Neji-nisan isn't here. He doesn't have training today. Did he not tell you?"

  "No, it seems he didn't. I hate when he does this"

"I'm sorry Kaoru I thought Neji-nisan told you"

  "I wish these days he hardly tells me anything its not your fault Hinata. Do you happen to know where he is  through?"

"I think he mentioned going to the training grounds but that's all I can remember. I am sorry that I couldn't be more help Kaoru"

I faked a smile. "It's fine Hinata thanks for everything and good luck with your missions and with Naruto", I told her before leaving. Hinata's face turned red once I mentioned Naruto's name. I knew about Hinata crush on Naruto and I wasn't the only one almost everyone knew about her crush. Everyone except for Naruto. I had been making my way to the training grounds maybe I could still catch him. When I arrived there I found that he wasn't alone. Standing by his side was Ten Ten. Neji seemed to have a huge smile on his face. My heart felt a ping. I had known they were close how could I not? He always seemed to tell her everything while I got next to nothing. I hated this feeling. I walked away not wanting to see any more of this. I walked around until I found myself deep in the woods behind the training grounds before sitting down wanting to cry. Before I started to sing Teach Me. It was time that I move on from Neji. I had just finished singing when I heard someone sit next to me. I assumed that it was Kakashi-sensei he had been the one who found me all those other times. "I don't know what I am going to do. Every time I am around him I try to fake that I am alright. Pretend that my heart isn't racing around him. That I don't love him more than as a friend. When he is around her I fake a smile. He seems so happy with her. Memories of him and I are golden shaken and rewrote them. So I took mine with me. And  I'm holdin' on but he's not mine. I've said goodbye a thousand times. I'm holdin' on but he's not mine. That he is hers and I can't change. So why can't I stop feeling this damn it", I ranted tears pouring down my face. When I felt someone wrap their arms pulling me into a tight embrace. I opened my eyes but instead of seeing Kakashi, I saw Neji right in front of me. His long brown hair flowing down. His eyes looking straight into mine. "Neji where is Kakashi-sensei  and why are you here?"

"Kaoru Kakashi-sensei was never here it has always been me. I've was the one who was here every time hearing about this guy you love. Kakashi-sensei handed you over to me after leaving the first time. You just kept assuming he was here"

  "But why are you here Neji that still doesn't answer my question shouldn't you be with Ten Ten?"

"What the hell are you talking about Kaoru? Did you think that Ten Ten and I are a thing"

  "Maybe I mean you seem so close"

    "Because we are teammates and friends that's all. Besides, how could I love her when I am in love with someone else"

   "Who is it"

"Why its the person right in front of me. The person who keeps ranting about their unrequited love. Yet is smart, charming, brave, stubborn, and always surprise me. Kaoru could I ever replace the men you love"

  I smiled for the first time in a long time all this time we had been running around each other. "You idiot the person I love was you. It was always you", I exclaimed before pulling Neji into a kiss as he kissed back. Before pulling back and whispering sweet words into my ear. Holding me tightly at that moment I wished time would stop that we could be like this forever. As Neji held me in his arms.
