FAMILY DAY

"Thank you, doc." Nakangiting ani ko. "I'll make sure that on Monday I'll be back to work again."

"That's good to hear. Your patients are waiting for you." Pagbobola nito.

"I'm sure they miss me." Natatawang sagot ko.

Nagpaalam na ako rito matapos kong bumalik sa hospital to comply. Nasa kalagitnaan ako nang paglalakad sa hallway when someone shouted my surname.

"Oh God! Doc Alcantara!"

Mabilis akong lumingon, only to see Kamila who was walking so fast towards my direction.

"Sabi ko na nga ba ikaw 'yon eh!" Masayang wika niya. "Namiss kita Doc! Mas lalo ka atang gumanda ngayon ha? Blooming ka po! Maganda po ba ang buhay sa Samar?"

"Sira! I didn't go there to unwind. I have work to do, remember?"

Napakamot ito sa kaniyang ulo. "Oo nga pala. Sorry, kailan po ulit ang balik niyo?"

"Sa Monday pa. Bumisita lang ako to report. By the way, your pasalubong is on your desk. All the list you gave me, I bought it all. May mga pangalan doon, ikaw na ang bahalang magdestribute sa mga kasamahan mo."

"Grabe Doc! Galante!" Pagbibiro nito. "Balik ka na sa Monday, Doc ha? I miss your frown face."

Lunch break nito ngayon kaya sinamahan niya akong tinatahak ang daan patungo sa parking lot. She was asking about the patient, she's having a hard time reading the CT Scan.

"Send me a copy of it later in my email. I'll check it."

"Seryoso Doc?" Bakas ang kasiyahan sa mukha nito. "Thank you!"

"Welcome."

Pareho kaming natigilan when we saw my boyfriend standing in front of his new car. His back were resting on the hood of his car habang busy ito sa pagce-cellphone.

"Ang pogi naman niyan Doc. Sino 'yan? May kamag-anak kaya 'yan sa hospital?" Pabulong na ani ni Kamila.

"Actually, I know him." I said.

"Really Doc? Pakilala mo ako!"

"I'm afraid, I can't do that."

"Why?"

"He's my boyfriend." I answered, which shocked Kamila. "It's fine, don't worry about it. Sanay na ako."

"Oh God! Sorry Doc!" Mabilis nitong sambit. "Hindi ko alam."

"No, it's fine." Natatawang ani ko.

Humingi pa ito sa akin ng tawad muli bago siya bumalik sa loob ng hospital. I went to Weston's side. Nang makita ako nito ay agad siyang tumigil sa pagtatype sa cellphone niya.

"Why do you look so mad?" Takang tanong ko when I noticed him clenching his jaw.

"That fucking Klean!" He half shouted. "He got my sister pregnant! That motherfucker!"

"Really? Buntis na si Ate Winona?"

"Why are you excited?" He asked. "You're not shocked?"

"They were obvious, babe. I think matagal na silang magkarelasyon but I'm not sure. I just saw them being too close to each other after she came back."

"Bakit hindi mo sinabi sa akin?"

"It's not my story to tell, Weston. I respect their privacy and I'm sure Ate Winona wants to tell you about it, naghahanap lang siya ng tamang panahon."
