----- CHAPTER 34 -----
She flashed a sympathetic smile.
"What happened?"
"You passed out." She sighed, sitting on the edge of my bed with her arms crossed.
"Poor girl . . . I can only imagine how difficult this is for you." She rubbed my leg gently. "But don't worry, okay? I already talked to them and they agreed to give you the space that you need. You were still in your mother's womb the last time you were together."
My lips trembled, a sob trying to escape my mouth. I bit my lip, shutting my eyes even tighter.
"Would you like me to stay here with you or do you want to be alone?" Selene asked, but I didn't respond.
Selene took my silence at face value.
I heard her sigh, her footsteps followed. "If you need anything, I'm just outside."
The moment I heard the door close, I opened my eyes and let my tears fall. As I cried, my eyes darted on Selene's shoulder bag and coat left on the couch.
With all my might, I got up and quickly reached for it. For the first time in a long time, it felt like a bit of luck was finally on my side. I hurriedly grabbed a few hundred bills from Selene's wallet, making sure to leave some so she wouldn't notice.
"Selene!" I called out as soon as I got back in bed. "Selene!" I yelled for her again.
"Everything, okay?" She entered with a look of concern.
"I'm hungry . . ." I said, trying to look weak while looking at her in the eyes.
"Okay." She nodded and smiled; a look of relief flashed on her face. "What do you want me to buy?"

"Keep the change!" I said, slamming the taxi door shut.
As the taxi sped away in the night, I found myself standing right in front of our unlit house. The rain is pouring down on me, making me shiver, but I couldn't care less.
Darkness covered every inch of the property. My heart sank, knowing that no Tito Maynard is waiting for me inside to greet me with a smile and ask me how I've been.
I looked up at the night sky, not a single star in sight. The moon even hid in the clouds. I closed my eyes as I let go of my tears.
In the middle of the rainy night, standing an empty sidewalk, I stood crying.
What did I do wrong to suffer such miserable fate?
With the gates unlocked, I made my way inside Tito's garden. With the doors left ajar, I entered the house and flipped the light switch on, only to see our living room in complete disarray as if someone purposely made a wreck of it.
