"I should head back..." I whispered after a long moment of silence. I looked at Grayson and saw he started to panic. I stood ip from the bar stool and quickly walked towards the front door. This whole situation frightened me. I knew things I was not supposed to know and beside that, how long had I been here?
"Wait!" Grayson said suddenly as he walked over to me quickly. I stood frozen to the ground and slowly turned around to face him. Somehow I trusted Grayson, even though he was just some stranger to me that I met in a bar. I exhaled deeply as I saw the sadness on Grayson's face. "Y-you can stay a bit longer if you want?" He asked hesitant. I slowly walked over to him and laid my hands on his shoulders.
"I should really get back to my family." I whispered to him. As I said that, something changed in his eyes. His sadness got replaced with something else, I just could not quite tell what it was. "Thanks for having me." I said as I opened the front door. I felt a stabbing ache in my back as I walked out of the house. I felt drawn to this place and as I kept walking the pain became worse but I forced myself to keep walking. I did not know what the hell was going on but I should not feel this way. I have not been here before, I think. Why did I feel this way? I started walking faster. Maybe if I kept going further from the mansion I would lose this strange feeling. In no time I was back in town and I felt like I could finally breath again. I stood frozen for a moment as I let my lungs fill with air. It felt like it was the very first time I could breath.
"There you are," I heard as someone grabbed me shoulder. In a quick movement I grabbed the hand and forced the person to the ground. "Damn it, Izzy!" I heard and I just now saw it was Tal.
"I am so sorry!" I said as I let go of him. He stood up as I saw I bruised his arm. I quickly helped him remove the dirt from his clothes and fix his hair as I felt guilty.
"Where were you?" He asked. I bit on the inside of my cheek as I wondered if I should tell him where I was or not. He would probably call me crazy if I told him, but I did not tell him, what would happen further?
"Let's just, head home ok?" I asked hesitantly. The strange feeling I had before still did not had left my body. I inhaled deeply as I looked around. I did not know what I was looking for but somehow I was relieved not to see a familiar face.
"Are you ok?" Tal asked and I immediately looked at him again. "You seem like you have seen a ghost?" He said and I immediately shook my head. I figured it was not a good time to tell him. Or maybe there won't ever be a good time.
"Just, let's go." I said as I started walking home. I was in my own thoughts the whole time as Tal and I headed home. I was glad he did not ask any questions about where I was or with whom I was. I was thinking of Grayson, thinking of where I might have seen him before because he seemed so familiar to me and he felt things he could not feel towards a stranger. At least that is what I could see in his eyes. "Do we have family pictures inside?" I asked Tal as we walked up the driving way.
"I guess, why?" Tal asked as he opened the front door. I ignored his question as I immediately walked in towards the cabinet. I started searching for our family books and pictures. I told Grayson that my family was here but as I thought more about it, I could only remember being with Tal, Emily and everyone else here but not a father or mother. As I found the books and pictures I sat down on the couch as Tal brought a cup of coffee to me. "What are you looking for? Ever since you disappeared from the cafe you have been acting strange." Tal said as he sat down beside me.
"Why don't we have any pictures of mom and dad? A care taker?" I asked as I looked through the photos. There were just pictures of us from the last few years, from bad quality. I threw them on the table in anger as I ran a hand through my hair.
"Because we were troubled and every care taker left us when we were in a institution? Don't you remember all or moms and dads left us?" Tal asked and I immediately frowned as I looked up to him.
"No?" I asked in disbelief.
"Listen," Tal said as he grabbed the cup of coffee away from me, put in on the table and grabbed both of my hands. "Where were you today?" Tal asked as he looked at me with his usual puppy eyes when he needed something from me.
"I was just taking a walk, it was nothing special." I lied to him.
"Come here." Tal said as he pulled me close to him and held me tightly. "I know it's hard to see everyone else living their normal life with a mom and dad, a normal job and doing whatever they like but the way we live is how we survive." Tal said and I slowly nodded at him.
"You're right..." I whispered as I felt like something was still off.
