A Vampire's Love; the untold story

Chapter 36

 'My mother?' she asks and he nods. 'While I was, dead, I couldn't see her, not all these years. Lately, something happened. This isn't the time to explain it'. He says as he knows that what pulled him out of that darkness he was in, was Davina. 'I was back in peace, for brief moments. And I did see your mother'. She already feels her eyes filling up with tears, so she stands up. 'Let's go in my room' she says and he nods, and then stands up. She starts walking to her room, and he follows her, being silent. They walk past the many rooms of the Salvatore School, the library, then the halls. Caroline watches them from the cameras, from the lobby, all the way to her room, where she does not have access anymore.

 Hope shuts the door when Elijah walks in her room. 'What did she say?' she asks, and her voice breaks a little bit, and he sighs, already regretting that he visited her. 'She misses you. But she watches you, every day. She loved you, so much' he says. She can't hold back her tears anymore, and she lets them roll down her cheeks, and then fall on her blouse. He looks down for a second,  giving her time.

 None of them knew that Hayley was gone. Davina didn't tell them. Freya knew, but didn't mention. They both thought that Hayley was still there, on the other side.

 'Hope, your mother loves you more than anything in the world. She misses you, every second that passes, on the other side' he says, quoting what exactly Hayley told him. 'I..I miss her too' she stuttered. She couldn't speak clearly, since the few tears she had, turned into crying, which now turns into sobbing. Elijah, was trying to keep his distance, he knew that Hope never really liked him. But seeing his one and only niece like that, broke his heart, which in fact, was already broken. But Hope, having no one around her, that was close enough to Hayley, besides him, walks towards him, and hugs him, wrapping her hands around his waist, which was much more comfortable, given their height difference. It took him a few minutes to respond, but he just hugged her back, knowing his niece needed that hug, even if it was from him. 'Uncle Elijah?' she asks, and she pulls back. Calling him uncle, was the best thing that happened to him since he was back to life. He looked at her, wondering what she wants to say. 'I'm really happy that you're back' she says, honestly this time. He nods in response, knowing that this time she means it.

 He is just about to tell her he's going back, when they hear a knock on the door. 'Come in' Hope says wiping away her tears. The door opens, and Caroline shows up. 'Sorry to interrupt'. She looks at Elijah and Hope. 'I'm sorry Elijah, but you know you can't be here' she says and he nods. 'I understand. I'll be on my way right now' he says and he walks towards the door, that Caroline opens fully, as she nods. 'Elijah, wait' Hope says and grabs her phone. 'Do you maybe, want to go to the grill or somewhere, you know, catch up' she says, and her voice softens. He smiles a bit, while he was not expecting it. 'Of course' he says as he nods. 'I'll be out waiting in my car' he says and looks at Caroline. 'Nice to see you too Caroline' he says, with a bit of sarcasm in his voice.

 Then he walks out, and walks all the way back to the lobby. He walks out of the school, and goes and gets in his car, waiting for his niece. A few seconds later, he sees her. She walks out, and sees his car. She walks to the car, and gets in and sits on the passenger's seat, next to him. 'Could never resist a Bentley, could you?' she asks, to lighten the mood, and he chuckles. 'No, not really' he says, smiling and he starts the black car, and drives off the school.

 When Caroline sees them leaving, she calls Klaus. She waits till he picks up, and when she hears his voice on the line, she sighs in relief. 'Klaus' she says. 'Hello love' she hears him saying, and rolls her eyes playfully. She thinks if he's ever tired of calling her like that. 'You should know, Elijah was here' she says and she hears him sighing. 'And I was looking for him. Marcel was, actually.' She sits down on her chair behind her desk, and puts her phone on speaker, as she starts going through some papers she has on her desk. She didn't care much about the children listening, they were all out of the school at that moment, they were gathering up in the field. 'What did Marcel want?' she asks being curious. 'Something that sounds very unnecessary to me, but Elijah would probably want to know that Davina's funeral is happening today, Marcel acted fast' he says and Caroline shrugs. 'I would tell him, but you just missed him, he left with Hope' she says. 'He left with Hope? His phone has been turned off for hours' he says and Caroline turns off the speaker and picks up the phone, bringing it to her ear. 'They left like three minutes ago' she says and Klaus exhales. 'Okay, I'll call Hope' he says. 'Okay, I've gotta run, we'll talk later'. She hears him sighing. 'Caroline when are you co-' she hears him, and she knows what he was asking, so she just hangs up.

 Elijah and Hope arrive at the grill. He parks the black Bentley, and he gets out of the car, and so does she. They walk to the grill, and they take a seat outside. Elijah takes off his jacket before he sits, and Hope puts her phone on the table. They both order something to drink, and Hope looks up at the sky, seeing how sunny the day is. 'It's a good day to be out, isn't it' she asks and Elijah nods. 'I believe it is' he says and she moves forwards on her chair. 'How are you feeling?' she asks, and he looks at her. 'Good, especially right now. Do you have any idea for how many years I waited for you to just sit and talk to me?' he asks and she looks down chuckling. 'Guess I had to die for that to happen' he says and he laughs a bit, and so does she. The waiter brings them their drinks, and Hope gets a sip from hers. 'What was it like, you know, on the other side?' she asks and he raises an eyebrow. 'It was, good. For your mother, it was peaceful' he says and he smiles a bit. 'I guess then Davina is having a good company now' she says and he sits up a bit. 'In all fairness, your mother and Davina weren't in the best terms, they never were' he says and he chuckles, as he could always remember their bickering, back to when Hayley and Davina were alive. 'I think I know about that' Hope says and chuckles.

 'Know about what?' Elijah asks and Hope takes another sip from her drink. 'Mom and Davina. They didn't like each other, Davina told me and Cami once' she says and Elijah looks at her. 'What do you mean she told you?' he asks, and she looks at him, shrugging. 'She has told us about, you know, you and her' she says and chuckles a bit. Elijah raises an eyebrow, and fixes his tie. 'It was when we found out she was alive, remember? Dad had daggered you, and one day me, Cami and Davina where in Marcel's loft. We started talking, and I was a bit worried. But Cami suggested we talk about Davina's switch or whatever. So we talked about that, to distract me and Cami' she says shrugging. He lowers his eyebrows, and ends up nodding. 'Not quite the conversation I'd like to have Hope' he says with a wobbly voice, since talking about this, makes him uncomfortable. But Hope doesn't seem to care. 'Well, why not? You seem like you're alright' she says shrugging. Before he gets to answer, Hope's phone rings, and she picks it up.

 'Where the bloody hell is your uncle Hope' he hears her father's raucous voice. 'He's with me, why, what's wrong?' she asks. 'Tell him to turn his bloody phone on!' he yells. Elijah stretches his hand towards Hope, suggesting her to pass him the phone, and she hands the phone to him, and then he brings it next to his ear. 'What's the matter Niklaus?' Elijah asks annoyed. 'You know Elijah, you have got a phone so you can actually use it' he says and Elijah rolls his eyes. 'I know, what a mystical device' he says sarcastically. 'What do you want?' he asks and Klaus calms down. 'Marcel came by. Davina's funeral is gonna happen soon. I presumed you would want to be here' he says and Elijah slightly opens his mouth. After a pause that lasted a few seconds, he looks at Hope. 'I'll be there shortly' he says and he hangs up. He hands Hope's phone back to her. 'Forgive me, I have to go' he says and he stands up, and she does the same. 'Why, what's wrong?' she asks as she watches him put some money on the table, under his glass. 'Davina's funeral is sooner than I thought. I need to be there. I'll drop you at the school before I go' he says and he puts his jacket on. 'No need to, I'll go on my own, you go and be there on time' she says and he looks at her. 'See you Hope' he says as she rubbed the back of her head, messing her hair a little bit, and she smiled. 'See you' she says and he rushed to his car. In a few seconds, the car had disappeared from Hope's sight.
