Chapter 30

(Y/N) Pov

The cracks of gunshots echoed through the city, bouncing off the walls of the now empty streets. Bullheads had already begun landing inside the city and it wouldn't be long before the ground vehicles broke through our frontlines. 

I was making my way back towards the marketplace where I left Cinder when this all begun... that was a few hours ago now but... maybe she's still there. All my hope in that being the case fell apart as I got closer.

I could hear the turning of bullhead blades close to the ground as well as gunshots all coming from within the market. I used some rubble from a collapsed building to get onto a roof overlooking the nearby area, only as I got up there did I truly understand the scale of the destruction. 

Entire city blocks were leveled any parts that weren't were being used as cover as the two sides fired at each other. But my main focus was on the marketplace, more than fifty atlesian soldiers were in there, seemingly setting up a forward operating base within the city. There were units of all kind, snipers, medics, explosives experts, and even an uncloaked inquisitor.

Basically just a real pain in the ass.

And with how this shit show has been going, I'm going to have to take it down on my own. All with only a bow and this shitty pocket knife I found on the floor, since my sword is basically a blunt weapon at this point. 

I took note of the locations of all of the units on defense...

There were four snipers, each in a corner of the marketplace, they would be my first targets...

Then I'll take out the proxy squads they have patrolling...

After that I'll have to go loud to clear out the rest of the market.

(Y/N): "Alright let's get to work." I whispered to myself as I jumped down, making sure to land behind cover so those snipers don't turn me into JFK. 

I snuck my way to the first snipers position, I was able to hug the wall and stick to his blind spot until I got close enough. As I was right under him I grabbed a rock from a pile of rubble. I threw the rock in another direction and as I heard him turn I quickly scaled the building.

Sniper #1: "False alarm. Just some debris." As soon as his radio turned off I covered his mouth before stabbing him in the neck with the pocket knife. He struggled for a second before the blood loss got to him, causing him to collapse. 

I layed him flat on the ground before searching his gear. I took his sniper, combat knife, a dust grenade, and a handgun. Which means I finally have some decent gear to work with.

I put the sniper on my back and began moving towards the second snipers position. I crawled towards his position, using the debris as cover, I still couldn't believe the destruction they caused. I had only been to this city for a little bit but I could tell it was full of decent people, everyone I had met had treated me far better than most pricks in Atlas.

They don't deserve this.

I snapped out of my thoughts as the sound of footsteps coming closer made my instincts kick in, I dropped to the floor tucking myself between debris and the corpse of a civilian. I played dead as the footsteps sounded like they were right on top of me, I focused my hearing.

Atlas Soldier: "So we launch the largest invasion in Atlas history and, poof, the Shadow of Atlas just fucking vanishes?" Out of the corner of my eye I could see two soldiers walking less than three meters from me. 

Atlas Soldier #2: "Exactly, that dudes weird man." They stopped, scanning the area for enemies before continuing on their patrol. "I heard him and the Schnee specialist are dating."
