Saber pov
The window next to me shattered as the first ice fiend jumped through it, but with a quick swing of my sword I cleaved it in two before it even touched the ground. Then two others threw themselves through the window as even more found their way in through other entrances.
I swung two more times, just barely managing to kill the two closest to me before I was thrown to the ground as a massive pressure hit my back. I was dazed but still had enough sense to roll to the side, dodging a second ice fiend. Jumping up and dodging yet another attack, I managed to use my momentum to punch the nearest fiend. Crumpling it's unarmored head under the pressure.
A brief pause in the attacks gave me enough time to properly survey the situation that's unfolded. I counted five surrounding me with even more outside. So all things considered, the situations pretty fucked.
My moment of reprieve ended as the ice fiends roared to each other as a means of coordinating an attack. I rushed down the closest one, cutting it's head clean off, before turning and thrusting my sword into the second. I had barely enough time to block using my sword as the third threw itself at me, killing itself on the blade.
The last two charged at the same time forcing me to back up. I lost track of how far I had moved and before I knew it my back was against the wall. There was little or no space to maneuver as more fiends made their way in and began to surround me.
Saber: "May as well go out swinging." I mused to myself, preparing to take as many as I could with me to the grave.
But as I stepped forward a distinct wooden creaking sound came from the floors, and a realization dawned on me...
this house has a basement!
I activated my semblance, putting as much of my aura as possible into my sword, before plunging it into the wooden floors. The ground I was standing on instantly turned to ash, the small blast also producing enough heat to kill some of the nearby fiends.
As embarrassing as it is I did let out a small yelp as I fell to the next floor. Looking up, at the hole in the floor, I could see ice fiends gather around it. But they weren't attacking... they were watching... waiting.
For what?
I nervously looked around the basement, not wanting to take my eyes off of the fiends staring at me. The basement was pretty big, about the same size as a classroom would be, and filled with tools. The next thing to catch my eye was the stairs leading back up, but before I could do anything more a loud thump came from behind me.
What ever was behind me hadn't attacked when I had my back turned, that makes me a little more confident about this. As I turned I was greeted by the sight of an eight foot tall Alpha Ice Fiend. And the confidence is gone.
Alpha Ice Fiends will only challenge people one-on-one if they're viewed as a threat to the rest of the pack and if there are more alphas to lead if they die. So not only do I have to beat this guy! There's even more of them waiting outside!
Saber: "Fuck you Winter, I should've never answered that call!" I yelled out in frustration, drawing my sword and getting ready for the fight to continue.
Normally I would be able to cut through the ice armor like butter, but I just used the last of my semblance. Using anymore would drain my aura to critical levels and using any after my aura's drained could kill me.
The alpha lunged at me, forcing me to back up as it wildly swung it's claws. Not wanting to get cornered again I went on the offensive. Taking a few steps back and then moving towards it in a full sprint, before sliding under its swings and using the momentum sweep its legs. It fell face down as I jumped to my feet.
