Ruby's pov
We watched in horror as the bullhead rounds ripped through (Y/N)'s leg, causing him to roll off the side of the cliff. Standing next to me was Winter who had came with me as I tried, and failed, to find the other members of my team in the chaos. The crowds were scrambling, pushing and tossing people to the side, forcing me to hold onto Winter's arm so we wouldn't get separated.
Ozpin: "Year 1's and 2's please return to your dorms immediately. All civilians make your way to the dining hall, if you don't know where that is please ask your nearest huntsman for guidance." The voice over the intercom made me feel uneasy, he was in that tower with (Y/N) and Ironwood, how is he so calm. "Any year 3's or huntsman are expected to board the next available bullhead and aid in the search for the murderer (Y/N) (L/N)."
Winter started walking towards the landing pads without saying a word, inadvertently bringing me along with as I continued to retain my grip on her arm.
Ruby: "Winter...Winter!?" I yelled trying desperately to get her attention. "Where are we going!?" She didn't turn to me as she spoke.
Winter: "We're gonna find (Y/N)." Well I should've expected that.
Bullheads were landing and taking off faster than I've ever seen them, with their spotlights turned on and gunners watching out of the doors. I know I've never experienced war but I could only assume this was what it felt like.
Atlesian Knight: "Hold on Ms.Schnee! You can get aboard but the first year is gonna have to stay." Despite what the knight said Winter held me in place.
Winter: "She IS a third year." What!? Maybe she could pull that lie off with Yang or Blake but I very clearly don't look like a third year. "Do I have to pull rank knight?" He backed away while putting his hands up defensively.
Atlesian Knight: "N-No mam!" With him out of the way we stepped aboard, honestly I felt a little bad for the guy, he seemed really scared of Winter.
The bullhead was crammed full of people, mostly Atlesian soldiers but there were a few hunstmen and third years sprinkled in. As the bullhead took off I couldn't help but wonder what we were even suppose to be doing. Is (Y/N) a bad guy now? Are we supposed to arrest him? Are we supposed to kill him? What does Winter want to do? I'm not sure if anyone really knew the answers to those questions.
While I was still getting my thoughts together the bullhead shook violently before the doorsa flew open revealing the state of Vale.
Empty streets gave off an eerie feeling, never before had they been this barren, even in the darkest hours of the night there was life on these streets. Now it was like the city was dead. The only reminder of life was the scattered search parties and patrolling bullheads.
Winter: "Stay with me." She said while pulling my shoulder, breaking my train of thought. "We need to find him before anyone else."
Ruby: "Why? Aren't they going to arrest him?" Winter only sped up as I spoke, taking us down a street no one else had gone down yet.
Winter: "He just killed the leader of the worlds superpower in front of thousands of people..." She bit her tongue for a second, composing herself, before speaking again. "...we'll be lucky if they don't kill him on sight."
For the first time I began to realize the severity of the situation, this wasn't some training exercise (Y/N) could die here. Even if he did something bad I still don't want him to die, there must've been a reason.
Looking over at Winter I noticed she didn't look worried or even sad, she looked furious. I stayed quiet after that, not wanting to get her any more upset.
