(Y/N) Pov

Cinder: "Do you have any idea what the situation is in Menagerie?" Those were the first words she'd said to me in a few hours.

(Y/N): "Not a fuckin' clue." She sighed it was a big annoyance that I didn't know.

Cinder: "Atlas has already taken over a significant amount of the towns bordering the sea." She turned her phone towards me revealing a map of Menagerie with red and blue marks, representing Atlas and Menagerie's armies. "Our sources have told us that The White Fang have stepped in as a pseudo army."

I grabbed the phone from her hands, looking over the map I took notice of the towns under Atlas control. Then I looked over the most unfortified towns that the White Fang had control of.

Cinder: "What are you doing?" She protested as I added yellow marks on certain towns.

(Y/N): "Marking the places we need to be." She looked confused before I turned the phone back towards her. "Yellow marks are the towns that will be attacked next, if we let Atlas take those towns then we lose."

Cinder: "That makes no sense, those towns are small. Why waste forces?"

(Y/N): "The Atlas military needs to show off that it's winning to it's investors, their safest bet is to start at the small towns." She nodded, intently listening to everything I was saying. "So if for some strange reason they start losing to even the weak unguarded towns..."

Cinder: "...then their investors will want to cut losses before the price starts to pile up."

(Y/N): "Exactly."

Cinder: "Hmm... not bad." She said while continuing to look over the map.

The bullhead went quiet again, the only noise was the muffled sound of the blade outside. I used to find that noise annoying, but after spending so much time in bullheads, I find that the rhythmic beat is almost like a lullaby.

I closed my eyes and leaned back in my seat, hoping to catch some rest before I'll probably have to stay up for a few days. As I began drifting off to sleep I was pulled back to reality by the sound of Cinder clearing her throat.

As I opened my eyes I saw her, staring straight at me with a look on her face that was both confused and angry.

Cinder: "Why do you do this?" She said harshly.

(Y/N): "What?"

Cinder: "Coming on this mission. Some people do things for money others fame, but you... I can't figure you out." She ran her hands through her hair, something I'd seen her do a few times when it looks like she's stressed.

(Y/N): "I'm not sure either honestly." I could feel myself freeze up. Why am I doing this? "It just feels like I should... I guess." She continued to stare me down, the same expression on her face as if she wasn't satisfied with my answer. "What about you?"

Cinder: "I do it to gain power." For the first time I watched as her untouchable facade broke, a pained expression forming on her face. "My weakness cost the lives of those close to me."

(Y/N): "So did mine." Her pained expression went away, replaced by a smug grin.

Cinder: "So you do this for power, like me." I chuckled causing her to become confused again.

(Y/N): "No I ended my quest for power long ago after realizing what it was turning me into." I pulled my hood down so she could see me looking her in the eyes. "When you fail only one person decides what you make of it..." I leaned back into my seat. "...will you sink or swim, Cinder?"
