(Y/N)'s pov
Salem: "Are you implying that the journey was a failure?" While the question seemed innocent there was an aura of danger around Salem as she spoke. "The only thing that this proved was how well (Y/N) can adapt, AND how LITTLE you can follow orders girl."
Salem towered over Cinder, who had knelt down by this point.
Cinder: "M-My apologies my queen. I meant no offence." Even though she talked her eyes stayed fixated on the floor beneath her. "I just believed the trip to be far more dangerous than it was worth." Salem seemed to calm, very slightly, at Cinder's reasoning. "It worries me that he may not see our goals as a priority."
Salem placed her hand on Cinder's head, who took a heavy breath and shook at the touch, before grabbing lightly forcing her to look up. Her red eyes almost glowed as the stared down at the scared girl. It almost made me want to intervene.
Salem: "I do not anger at your reasoning girl..." She lowered her hand under her chin, forcing her to look up even further. "But never speak out of turn AGAIN."
Cinder: "Yes my queen." With that said Salem finally backed away, giving the shaken girl a chance to breathe.
It was now my turn to be intimidated as she made her way over to me, stopping only as our bodies touched. Though her eyes weren't full of anger, as they were with Cinder, instead maybe... disappointment.
Salem: "Darling~ I need you to understand for this to work I need your full cooperation." Her tone was seductive and her hands caressed my face as she spoke.
(Y/N): "I understand, from now on I'll be more cautious with my missions."
This seemed to appease her as she smiled, though she held me for a few more seconds before pulling away. She made her way back over to Cinder, who had since stood up, and spoke to her in a much less intimidating tone.
Salem: "You're point is noted, therefore you will accompany (Y/N) and the others to Menagerie." Cinder immediately began protesting.
Cinder: "My queen there are already three others going on the trip, my addition is not necessary."
Salem: "On the contrary, everyone in the mission group are hired guns, none could be considered trustworthy." I had no idea that I was being sent with a group, let alone mercenaries. "I need you to keep (Y/N)'s mind on the mission and most importantly be someone I could trust alongside him." A smile formed on Cinder's face at hearing that she was entrusted with such a task, though still looked upset about it involving me.
I didn't mind going on a mission alone, or with Cinder, but going into such a hostile area with a bunch of mercenaries isn't my idea of a good time. The last thing I need is for Ozpin to empty his pockets and next thing I know I've got half the Atlas army on my ass. I decided to speak up about this.
(Y/N): "Excuse me, why're you sending mercenaries with me." This got both of their attentions. "Now that I think about it... you haven't told me any part of the plan." I think I caught them off guard when I spoke up, they must've expected me to just follow orders.
Not anymore.
Salem: "My apologize, SOMEONE was supposed to brief you." She put a hard emphasis on looking at Cinder as she said 'someone'. "As well I believe you know all of the people we've hired for assistance." I looked over at Cinder.
Cinder: "We've hired Raphtalia, Tifa Lockhart, and Saber." Oh... well at least I'm not being sent out with any random person. "Raven may be tagging along as well, but we're currently unsure of her participation." I nodded, feeling much more confident in our odds after hearing the details.
