(Y/N) POV

*Ring* I turn and silence my phone

*RiNg* I sit up slightly and silence my phone again

*Riiiiiiinnnnnnnggg* I finally get out of my bed and answer my phone

(Y/N): "Hello." My voice was raspy and coarse. The fact that I had just gotten up moments ago was obvious to anyone who heard it.

Winter: "Morning (Y/N), I hope I didn't wake you too early on your day off." Whatever grogginess I had quickly disappeared as I heard her voice.

(Y/N): "Oh uh ... its fine. Is there any reason your calling?"

Winter: "General Ironwood wants to speak with you. Important mission apparently, he won't even tell me about it."

I thought it was a little weird for the general to not tell his second in command about a mission, but that was the last thing I was thinking about. I was mostly focused on how my one day off was now going to be used up on some bullshit recon mission.

(Y/N): "Understood i'll get to the briefing room asap."

Winter: "Good luck (Y/N)."

I hung up the phone and started to get dressed into my casual clothes. Blue jeans, black and white high top converse, and an atlas military shirt.

(Y/N): "I got a feeling this is gonna be a long day." I said to myself as I locked the door to my dorm and started walking to atlas headquarters.

-TIME SKIP TO BRIEFING-

I walked into the briefing room. It was an all white room about the size of a classroom, with chairs setup along the back end, and a projection in the front of the room.

Ironwood: "Specialist (L/N), glad to see that you can make it on time." He gestured for me to come to the front. "I'm sorry for calling you in on your day off but this mission is vital and we're on a short time limit."

(Y/N): "I understand sir." That was a lie but I wasn't about to complain to the general, especially since most officers already dislike me, saying I don't deserve to be a recon specialist after past actions. The only officer I get any credit from is Winter since... honestly I'm not really sure why she's always treated me so well.

Ironwood: "That's good to hear now to your mission." He turned and activated the projection showing a map of atlas. "A white fang base has been confirmed to be somewhere in these mountains." The map zoomed in to show a 30 mile by 30 mile square filled with mountains.

(Y/N): "Every recon specialists dream, a shitload of mountains, knee deep snow, and all the terrain looking the damn same." I thought to myself, lightly chuckling at my own musings. "Couldn't get a fuckin simple hike for once."

Ironwood: "We don't know what they are doing however if they have bases in Atlas territory it's a threat not only to the physical health of our people but our morale as well." He turned towards the projection and circled an area as pictures of multiple atlesian scouts came up. "We sent a team of scouts to get a general layout of the area 2 weeks ago, but all contact was lost after they reached the mountains."

(Y/N): "I'm assuming you want me keep an eye out for those missing troops sir?"

Ironwood: "If possible I would like you to at least confirm their deaths, but the main objective is finding out what's in that base. If you don't have time to look for the scouts then so be it." He said it with an almost robotic tone, I would have liked if he could try to make it sound like he cared for the well being of his troops. In the end these higher ups seldom care for the grunts, it's all just politics and power.
