I tried to scream, but tubes were down my throat.
"Luc, I'm still a bit apprehensive about this." Mom told me over the phone.
"I know," I sat on my bed. "But I'm safe here. They love me and I trust them."
"I'm sure you do." Mom said. "Just be careful." She hung up.
I laid down. I want to know what happened between Mama and Ezra. Maybe it's not time for me to know.
Indra's been...radio silent. I think he's ignoring me. I sighed. He's never been supportive of me going to find my family.
I can't wait to meet Amber. I wonder what she's like, who she's like.
Mama came in.
"Come on dear-heart. Let's do something." She said. She was all dressed up and ready to go.
I sat up again, "I really want to meet Amber."
Mama looked troubled for a second, "I know..."
"What was she like as a baby?" I asked.
"She was very demanding. I couldn't feed her fast enough or get her dressed fast enough." Mama said. She seemed to laugh.
"Complete opposite of you. You were the easy baby." She finished.
"Oh." I said.
Mama smiled. "So, what do you want to do today?"
I looked down. In a way I was anxious to be out in a new state, a whole new city. The other I wanted to see it. I just wish the others were here to see it too.
"I'm not sure." I said.
"That's okay. We'll figure it out." She said, still smiling.
"Maybe we should just stay here." She pondered. "I would really like to talk to Ezra, but I have no idea when he'll be back."
I hunched my shoulders.
"Pfft." Mama laughed. She still gets a tickle out of how much I'm like Ezra.
"Maybe he left a number for us to call." She left and went downstairs. I silently followed, standing silently behind her when we got to the kitchen.
Mama looked all over. No number.
She pouted, "I should've asked for his number."
I held up my hands, "maybe we could call the precinct? Maybe one of the cops there has his number."
"But that's for emergencies." She sighed. "Let's just occupy ourselves until he comes back.
"Okay."
We looked around for stuff to do. We found a card deck and started playing.
"Go fish." Mama said. Aw. I reached over to the pile and pulled a three.
"Do you have any...sixes?" I lowered my head and handed over my sixes.
"Do you have any..." I saw the three. "Threes?"
"Go fish." She answered.
"How are you doing this?!" I reached for the deck as Mama laughed.
Keys jangled from outside and the lock turned. Mama dropped her cards and quickly stood up. I looked at the door.
It opened and Ezra walked in. Mama exhaled in relief.
"Hey you two." He said. "I see you found something to do."
"Yeah." I said.
"What are you doing here? I thought you'd be back much later." Mama questioned.
