Aleena & Donovan
Donovan stepped onto the porch and before he could knock her heard Aleena's voice tell him to come in.
He walked in slowly. "You wanted to talk?"
"I told you that two days ago."
"I was afraid of what your answer would be."
"And waiting two days was supposed to make a difference?" She sat down at the kitchen table. His nerves rattled him as he sat across from her and took her hand.
"Before you say anyting I want you to know dat I'm gettin councelin. I tink it might be good for me. For us."
Aleena slowly pulled her hand from his. Looking down at the table she began to speak.
"Listen," She sighed. "I can't marry you."
"Why not?"
"I'm going to Daytona to live with my dad for a while."
"Why? And tell me da trut. Is it to be wit' him?" He said pointing to the ring Antonio had given her.
"I'm moving up there because I need time."
"For what?"
"To think."
"Tink about what Leena? Weada you want to be wit' me or not? You can do dat here."
"I've already decided that. I'm leaving so that I can have time to think about me and what's best for me."
"And you tink Antonio is best for you?"
"Maybe."
"You're leaven me for him?"
"I'm not leaving you for him."
"Den what da hell do you call it?"
"Moving on!" She yelled beginning to lose her patients. "I need to get away from you! You're not good for me."
He stood from the table pacing the kitchen floor. Aleena could feel the tension getting higher. Then suddenly she felt his hands around her neck. He pulled her up out of the chair and pressed her against the wall. Her hands clawed at his arms. He didn't let go until her lips had turned purple.
He looked into her eyes and saw nothing. He usually saw fear, anger or sadness but now as she looked back at him he saw no emotion.
"What does dat mean, I'm not good for you?"
For moments she breathed heavily. "It means I need to focus on me. If I stay here with you I have to worry about your jealousy and watching everything that I do around you. I am...tired of constantly having to deal with you. We should've just stayed friends. It's time that I do what's best for me not you or anyone else."
"What's goin on?" Antonio said looking at Donovan. He stood in the doorway of the kitchen.
"Nothing." Aleena said looking Donovan in his eyes.
Donovan looked at Antonio for a moment with hatred in his eyes then he left the house.
Antonio looked to Aleena for an answer but she refused to give him one. It wouldn't be long at all before the bruises around her neck began to show.
