The swish of a door opening.

The sound of it softly closing.

I scrambled out of bed. It was only just sunrise, and someone was up.

Pulling on my skirt and shoulder guards, I stumbled to, and opened the door. Shutting it mellifluously so no one woke up, I stepped into the hall.

A dark, silhouetted figure jumped back. "Astrid?! What are you doing up at this time in the morning?!" I recognized the voice as Hiccup's.

"I could ask you the same question!" I whisper-yelled.

"I'm getting up because I'm checking on a foaling mare." He replied, also whispering.

He continued "I have quite a few jobs to do, and I'd like to get them over and done with as early as possible."

"Can I... can I come with you? Once I'm awake, I don't go back to sleep again." I asked awkwardly.

"m'kay. It's going to be boring, but you can if you want to." He said.

He took my hand and guided me through the house, as I couldn't see. Hiccup yanked a lever and the door swung open. It wasn't too much lighter, but I could just see. Hiccup rounded a corner, dragging me down a well-worn stone track that was carved into the mountain's face.

We progressed down the mountain, towards ground level. Our fingers were intertwined and it made my skin tingle. When we came to a large redwood building, he let go of my hand and heaved both doors open.

Third Person

The two people walked in and there were whinnies of joy coming from each little booth. Horses poked their heads through the little openings, happy that their master who was coming to let them out so that they could graze.

Torches that Hiccup set on fire suddenly lighted up the building.

Hiccup opened each wood-barred door and hooves clattered out and charged into the dim dawn light outside. When he got to the last one, he opened it, but no horse came out. He put a finger to his lips and gestured for Astrid to come inside.
