Evelyn stood just inches from his face. "You've replaced me already, have you?"

"I-"

"You have. With that blonde haired idiot."

"Astrid is NOT an idiot!" Hiccup snapped.

"oohhh, she's not an idiot!" Evelyn mocked. "You're pathetic, You think you know absolutely everything! The one thing you DO NOT know, is that good things don't last. You're a fake, just a boy, a useless, stupid. Boy.

Her hand reached toward him, he tried to move, he wanted to run. But he was utterly frozen. Evelyn's hand wrapped around his throat. Her hands were cold and she sneered, her chilling smile reflecting Grimmel's.

"Now, now Eve, Let go of our friend Hiccup!" Grimmel's unsettling voice sent shivers down Hiccup's spine.

The tall, evil man placed a cold hand on the paralyzed rider's shoulder.

"But Dad, I wanted to kill him!" Evelyn whined, her whimpering mimicking hers when she pleaded Hiccup for something.

"D-Dad?" Hiccup squeaked.

Grimmel sneered. "Yes, Evelyn is my little girl, took you long enough to figure it out."

"She doesn't even look like you!"

"She looks like her mother. Now, Eve, go and get the other!"

"Other?" Hiccup asked

"Yes, Other."

Evelyn came strutting back into the room, with a gagged and chain-bound Astrid.

"No!"

"Oh yes..."

Evelyn stabbed at Astrid's arm with her dagger and Astrid growled. The amber-haired girl (Evelyn) Slapped The blonde, leaving a hot, red mark in the shape of a hand on her cheek.

"Evelyn, Stop." Hiccup said.

Evelyn didn't stop. It was like he wasn't there.

That was the thing with his dreams, when he needed someone to hear him, they couldn't.

They –both Grimmel and Evelyn- continued to beat her. Her crying like poison to Hiccup. No matter how hard he pleaded them, they couldn't hear him.

"Now, Hiccup, If you want us to stop, just say!" Evelyn sang.

"I said, Stop!"

Nothing.

Grimmel turned to him and chuckled. "Nothing to say?" He felt a stab of searing pain rippling through his side, A dagger was driven halfway into the side of his body. Things seemed to hurt much more in nightmares.

----------oOo----------

Toothless woke up to a particularly loud whimper, and jumped from his slab. Another whine –but much quieter this time.

He crept to Hiccup's bed and nudged his rider's side, But the boy just writhed and thrashed, occansionally letting out a whine or a choked sob. Toothless bumped his nose against his friend's cheek. Hiccup kicked his furs to the bottom of his bed and whimpered. "Please, Stop."

He lashed out, striking Toothless on the face. The black dragon whimpered and realized he alone couldn't wake his best friend. He'd go get the girl with blonde hair. Hiccup seemed to like her.

He slowly slipped out of Hiccup's room, into the hallway. He opened the room on the right, which was the one he'd seen the blonde girl go into that evening.

Creeping to the bedside slowly, he looked on the pillow, at the face of a sleeping girl. He nudged her arm and she yawned.

"Whoisit... Oh, Toothless... what are you doing here? It's the middle of the night." She groaned, turning her back to the dragon.

She didn't get it, did she?

Toothless took the bottom corner of her blanket and tugged it off the bed.

"Uuggghhhhh, Toothless, What do you waaant?..." She griped, sitting up.

He jumped frantically and gestured toward the door with his head.

"You want to go... outside?"

Toothless shook his head.

"You want me to go outside?" Astrid raised an eyebrow.

Toothless grumbled. He pulled her off the bed and to her feet. He guided her out of her room, to Hiccup's door.

"Oh, Hiccup..."

The black dragon nodded and Astrid opened the door quietly and advanced to Hiccup's bedside, while Toothless returned to his slab.

The boy lashed at an invisible opponent, drops of perspiration settling on his brow.

"Hiccup."

"Hiccup."

"Hiccup, Wake up."

The boy didn't wake up, his shoulders slumped and he whined like a sad dog.

Astrid felt a stab through her heart, It hurt her to see him like this.

For at least 10 minutes, she shook his and called him, but he didn't wake up. He continued to cry and whimper and fight an unseen enemy. At last, when Toothless retreated from his slab and licked his face. Hiccup woke up, coughing and spluttering.

His face was tear-stained and wet and his eyes were bloodshot. "Dear Odin, why do you hate m-"

Astrid cut off his words, she squeezed him tight as if she couldn't get enough of him.

Unexpectedly, Hiccup let out a quiet, muffled sob and buried his face in her neck.

Astrid raised her eyebrows, but didn't say a word, only hummed in his ear.

They were both speechless for a while, Astrid humming in his ear whilst tears quietly slipped down his face.
