2 Weeks Later

Hiccup locked up the last pen of sheep. Finally, all the evening chores done. He should get back to the mountain before it rained, seeing as a large storm was due tonight.

He stepped out onto the slightly dewy grass outside the barn, closing the brown, wooden doors. Small droplets of water fell from the grey clouds above and slid down his face. The rain was cool and fresh, like each one was carefully measured, so that it would be a perfect, round, cool droplet of life.

Hiccup had a love-hate relationship with the rain. The sweet, frosty drops of liquid that fell from the heavens were simple, small life-giving beads of freshness, pattering down on his face. But on the other hand, he had had horrible experiences with rain, times when he

was beaten by his own cousin and left to soak in the cold, times when his own father threw him out in the rain, in a rage-filled, futile attempt to make him somewhat 'tougher' and 'more chief worthy'.

But when his father had said those words, Hiccup never believed him. He had heard his father telling Snotlout's parent's that their son was going to gain chiefdom in the end, not Hiccup.

Now, not just rain slid down his face, but tears also mingled with them, winding down his cheeks.

Rain meant either life, or horrible memories. He sobbed quietly.

Hiccup slashed the tears away. There was no time for crying. He mounted Toothless,(who now was quite annoyed because his rider had taken too long, and now he was getting rain on his scales.) and flew to the mountain.

When he got inside, He heard Ruff saying, "Gods, I love the rain!"

Hiccup shook the water from his hair like a wet dog, spraying all over her and her daughter.

"Augh!" Ruff yelped.

"What? I thought you liked the rain!" He laughed.

When Inga was hit with the spray, she started to sing:

"Is raining! Is pouring!

The old Viking' snoring,

He went to bed

And whacked his head

And couldn't get up in the Mooorrrrr-ning!"

The gang laughed at the little girl's antics, and Tuff piped up, "Hey H, It looks like you've been crying."

Everyone turned their heads to look at Hiccup's slightly red-rimmed eyes.

"What? No! I'm just really tired, that's all." Everyone seemed to be satisfied with the answer except for Astrid, who wasn't fully convinced.

That night, when Ruff went into her room, she said to her husband, " Don't you think Hiccup and Astrid would be Perfect together?"

Fishlegs looked up from his book. "You really have to stop bugging them, if they don't want to be together, they don't have to."

"But I'd even bet my best dagger to Tuffnut that they'll end up together."

Inga tugged on her mother's sleeve. "What does Together mean? Why is aunty Astwrid gonna be 'together' wif Mister hiccup?"

"That means," Ruff gave a mischievous grin. "They're gonna get married!"

"Ruffnut Thorston Ingerman! Now that you've told her, she's just going to take it as a fact!" Fishlegs whisper-yelled.

"But it is!"

It was almost midnight and the storm was fully underway, thrashing and crashing at the island.
