You've heard of short but sweet, right? Well, this chapter is one of them.

Hiccup's brows furrowed and he bit his lip, staring at the reflection that mirrored his every move, the reflection that saw the same as he did, the reflection that felt the same.

She looked up at the boy, who was biting his lip so hard it bled.

"Hiccup? You're bleeding."

"I-huh?"

If this was any other person, even her best friend Ruff, she wouldn't have fussed. It was only a tiny bit of blood. But Astrid had grown protective of the auburn haired dragon rider- though, he was well capable of looking after himself.

He wiped the blood on his sleeve and kicked his reflection in the water, scowling at it. A small splash of chilly water landed on Astrid's shoulder, reminding her of how cold she was. Because she was just in bed before she was roused by Toothless, she was only wearing a red shirt, boots and leggings. Her armor and warm fur hood was back in her room. She shivered.

Hiccup sat behind her and draped a fur over her shoulders and back.

"Thanks." Astrid murmured.

Hiccup caught her by surprise and wrapped his arms around her from behind. If it had been Snotlout in this case, or any other person, Astrid would have twisted their arm around and dislocated it, scratched their eyes out and screamed at them before she was satisfied with the outcome. However, this was Hiccup. She had kissed him before, and felt different about him than any other guy she'd ever met. He smelled of pine needles and leather, he did. She leaned back into his chest, sighing.

"Astrid?"

"Yeah?"

"I-I love you. I'm sorry, but I do."

"Why... Why are you sorry?"

"Because... Well, you're beautiful, you're amazing and talented. Me? I'm a normal person. It's the dragon, and the costume and the damned flaming sword that makes me look like something. There are probably at least 100 other Vikings out there that are much more worthy of loving you, I-"

"Wrong."

"What?"

"I said, wrong. Hiccup. You are not 'just a normal person.' You're so much more than that. You're the boy who trained the dragon, the boy who would do anything for the ones he loves, the guy with a kind and loving nature, the one... the one who stole my heart. Hiccup, I love you too..." With her last words, the moved so she was facing him, losing herself in his emerald eyes. She pulled him to his feet.

His hands loosened and fell to his sides. He was blinking rapidly, as if trying to grasp something that wasn't entirely comprehendible. He leaned forward slightly, leaving mere centimeters between their faces. Astrid breached the space and grazed her lips over his. Hiccup had finally computed the entirety of the situation and put a hand on her waist, pulling her closer.

The moon had set and the slowly rising sun was slashing warm, gold light into the lagoon and onto the couple.

When they pulled away a minute or two later, Hiccup buried his face in her hair.

"Astrid?"

"m?"

He lifted his head, but she couldn't see his eyes.

"I know this is quick, but... would you become my lady and be my betrothed?"

Astrid was grateful that he couldn't see her face, because she was blushing like mad. She wondered if he could feel the heat of her cheeks on his chest.

"Of course I would."

"Thank you... M'lady."
