Cassy

"You can put it by the table." Dan said as the both of them came back with boxes in their hands.

I snapped out from my momentum and rushed towards the table to assist them. Dan ripped open the boxes using a cutter as I leaned in to take a peek at the books.

"Can I take a look at it?" I turned to Ellis for permission. He nodded and handed me one.

"Who did the book cover?" I mused as I ran my palm over the book.

"Uh, I think, if I'm not mistaken, his wife did the cover for the book." Ellis replied while putting out the rest of the materials.

"Hmm, I see, that's cute and sentimental at the same time."

"So, what can I do to help?" I looked at the both of them.

"We can start with setting all the books around the place then start fixing the stage." Dan said. Therefore, the three of us scurried into putting the books around.

I carefully placed the items on each of the chairs. The routine, I kept repeating. I stepped on the floor inch by inch as I lay them down meticulously so I wouldn't be able to miss a single one.

I briefly looked around to see Ellis and Dan busying themselves too. Though, it didn't really take an hour to do so since the event was only expecting not more than a hundred guests.

So, this is how the staffs do it for us. Everyone really has a part on a person's success—I mean the people behind it, a role that takes them differently and sometimes we fail to acknowledge.

"Are you finished over there, Miss West?" Dan called out as I nodded at him in confirmation also giving him a thumbs up.

"You guys stay here, I'll just go and grab the tarpaulins so we can hang them by the stage." Then disappeared from our sight.

I made my way towards the stage and took a good look at the interiors. Ellis was in the middle of fixing the microphones so I didn't bother him for a while.

It was my first time to be seeing preparations being made for an event like this—not to mention that I get to experience it too. Sarah was probably right that day, it was selfish of me to be doing such a rash move especially after the preparations.

"I'm back," a voice chirped in, which was Dan carrying the tarpaulin in his grip. He put it down on to the floor. I hurried to grab a chair and volunteered to hang it up since it was only the three of us.

Dan also got one and we both positioned ourselves to raise he materials.

"Be careful, Cassy." I heard Ellis murmur from behind. I saw Dan shake his head and snicker from my peripheral vision which was also a contributing factor on why I was blushing right now.

"Uh, raise it up a bit, please." Dan hesitated as I did what I was asked to. "I still can't believe a writer is here with me helping," he mumbled. After some alterations, we asked Ellis if the angle was already good.

"Is it aligned already?" we asked him as he took a step back and eyed it.

"It's good," he nodded at the both of us.

I rubbed my palms against each other to get the small dust off. I shifted from my position and heard Ellis shout from behind,

"Cassy, careful!" but it was later because I felt the chair tipped to the side and I was already falling down from it. I lost balance and fell from it but I felt a strong grip surround my waist, when I opened my eyes, I saw a pair of eyes stare back at me.
