"Nice work today, team." Our team leader commended all of us after the small event happened. I was kind of guilty that I didn't tell Cassy beforehand that there would be publicity for the official signing of contracts.
She was surprised to see cameras all over the place. The flashes could've disturbed her a bit, I mean she hasn't been on talk shows for months. Good thing I was able to catch her from behind subtly.
Dave was still saying something but I wasn't able to bring my focus upon him. My mind kept flying towards Cassy. She looked astounded earlier when a dumbass asked about her dating rumours. I had to leave my spot earlier because Suzy called me about mom then when I came back, I hear that question. I can't help but worry about her.
"Uh, did Miss West already leave the building?" I discreetly asked Tina, the new intern for PR team. We were currently helping the accommodation committee to tidy up around the place.
She turned to me from fixing the chairs and stared at me for a while, I grew awkward of the silence before she could even answer. "Oh, uh. She's with Mr. Smith to finish some few papers." She replied shyly. I nod and mouth to her an 'okay'.
I can't talk to her while we were still in the building so I'd have to wait until my shift was done so I could go and see her. Thankfully, the company was able to trace who the intruder earlier was so that's less from my worries—I was so ready to pounce on him earlier if I haven't caught Cassy's gaze on me earlier.
"Clarke!" Denise called out from the door to the function hall. Is the copy machine broken again or what?
"Yes?" I responded,
"Brian wants you in his office now." She informed me shortly then walked away.
I sighed in distress upon hearing his name again. What does he need again now? Does he need me to fix his bowtie or something? As of the moment, I didn't know but a sense of discomfort rushed through me but I tried to shake it away.
"Are you going to be fine to finish everything around here?" I asked Tina,
She nodded politely, "I can manage,"
I nodded and left the function hall to go to Brian's office. I tried to walk briskly as possible so I could get this over with already. The least I want today is to see his face, I want to rub it off on every cement wall and floor I see.
I knocked on the door and saw Brian smoking by his desk. His feet up on it. Smoking like a joker that he already is. Isn't smoking prohibited around here, anyway? Right, boss.
"Sir?" I say despite the smoke's odor that tried to trap by breath. He lifted his head to me and gave a vicious smirk then set down his cigarette.
"Keep the door open so the smoke would dissolve faster." He instructed, I did as he said and walked over to his desk.
"Look, I don't want anything to do with all of this anymore. I'm done, my conscience won't take it anymore." I spat straightly to his face but he didn't show any reaction.
"Is that you, Clarke?" he said,
"I had to do the work you tasked me to do, now I'm being dragged into this." I told Brian.
"I'm done with this." I mutter under my breath, clenching my jaw.
"Good job, Clarke. Mr. Smith was so over the moon upon the contract signing. Now we celebrate." Brian said, like he didn't hear what I just said. Is he deaf? Or should I just punch this man to knock some sense into him?
