Cassy
"It's just.." he trailed off but I cut him short. I don't think I needed to hear what he was to say, let alone was it important to me.
"It's fine, you don't need to answer that." I smiled slyly at him. He cleared his throat and proceeded to fixing the food in front of me.
I glanced at the clock to see the time and it was already eight in the morning and he was still here with me, unfazed with the fact that he had a chance of being reprimanded.
"Wait, don't you have work?" I asked.
"I actually do but I'll just attend the meeting later in the afternoon. I'll just call them to let them know I have an emergency." He shrugged nonchalantly.
As if I was an emergency, though I'm still thankful that he was kind enough to be staying with me despite the status of us being acquaintances.
"Oh, I'm so sorry you had to skip work," I apologized.
"Don't be. I'm still kind of exhausted anyway." He waved me off. "Are you feeling a lot better by the way?" he suddenly asked.
"Yep, I think the fever already subsided and my head's feeling a bit fine already so yeah." I replied while I bob my head to check if the headache was really gone. He nodded and handed me the soup.
We both sat in front of each other while talking. It was fascinating, though. We got to know more about each other. He told me about his history with jobs actually, he was quite the blabbermouth if I may say.
"I've had five different jobs and they were all of extremes. I hope this one lasts though." He wandered.
I contemplated on whether to share my story to him because he might deem it unfair that he was the only one who was sharing.
"I, uhm, actually kind of feel you." I chuckled awkwardly. He lifted his eyebrows at me, "What do you mean?"
"I've actually been to five different publishing companies. I just left one recently too so yes I know how you feel." I gave a light laugh.
He diverted his eyes elsewhere and talked, "Have I told you that I'm working on one now? I mean a publishing company."
"I think you've mentioned it already before to me. How's the atmosphere there by the way?" I asked him.
"It's kind of alright, the people are quite accommodating there too." He moved his shoulders.
"Well, that's nice to hear. Maybe you can get me a contract there sometime, yeah?" I joked at him.
He seemed to be surprised with my remark, "Are you serious??" he questioned with eyes wide.
"Silly, I was kidding. I haven't decided much on a new company for now. Anyway, I'm still writing my latest draft." I told him. Speaking of that draft, I need to start working on it if I didn't want to be phased out.
"You have a new book on the works?" he asked again.
"Well, yeah? That's my work so what else could I do?" I slowly told him, raising my eyebrow. His question was very intriguing, doesn't a writer write a book?
"Yes, right. What a question—me." He awkwardly chuckled.
We both continued talking for a while as we tried to finish the food between us. Honestly, now that we had the chance to properly introduce our lives to each other, I just came to a realization how different our lives led.
