Cassy

I open my eyes the next day to the lights seeping through the blinds. I move around to stretch my arms and turn to my side to see Ellis sleeping soundly. I stay there for a while and gazed at his features.

He started moving shifting and half opened his eyes. He breathed heavily and rubbed his eyes then turn to look at me. "Good morning," he smiled at me.

"Morning." I smiled back at him,

"Did you sleep well?" he asked,

Before I could even answer, I sneezed. "I did. But I think I caught a cold." I said, rubbing my nose with the tissue I got.

"It must've been from the raining yesterday. It did rain a lot when we were going home." He nodded and stared down at me in concern.

I stood up and stretched, "I'll be downstairs to take some medicine." He positioned himself up and looked like he was about to speak when a phone suddenly rang out of nowhere.

"Is that mine or?" he asked as his hands reach up to ruffle his hair,

"Nope. That's not my ringtone." I shook my head, popping the 'p'

"So, it's mine. Where did I put it?" he rolled from the bed and went on to look for his phone under the covers. I heard him mutter a "Oh, here it is." As I walked out the door.

I sneezed again and sniffed as I went down the stairs. I head to the kitchen to check the cabinets if I had some medicine stored in there. I opened the first one and luckily, there was the medicine resting at the very edge. I try to reach for it and got myself one to drink.

Should I cook breakfast? I checked the time and saw that it was only ten in the morning. We arrived here yesterday at eleven in the evening and unfortunately there was a heavy rain so Ellis couldn't go home.

Anyway, I settled on making pancakes. It was a Sunday morning so I didn't feel the pressure of having to force Ellis to go to his work. I turn the burner on and continue batting the liquid pancake that's going to be solid after a few minutes.

I hum to the tune of Almost is Never Enough as I moved around to try and perfect the shape of the pancakes.

"Cassy?" I heard Ellis call out as he neared the kitchen,

"I'm here!" I chirped,

"Ooh, what's for breakfast?" he eagerly bobbed his head to take a peak from the counter, his bed hair still evident. "Just a side comment but seeing you in that oversized shirt cooking for breakfast makes me feel like we're actually married." I felt my cheeks turn bright red upon his comment.

"Just pancakes." I said, trying my best not to stare.

"Well, they're made by you so I guess it's delicious." He flirted,

"Yeah, don't get your hopes up." I chuckled and switched off the stove. I grabbed two plates from the cabinet and placed each on our respective places. I placed the pancakes in front of Ellis and he did this inhaling gesture as if he was going to eat a very sumptuous meal.

"I didn't know you had fetish for pancakes." I interrupted his little acting,

He stopped midway in inhaling and opened his eyes darting it to me, "Yeah, don't toot the horn, Cassy."

"What?" I laughed and raised my hands in mock defense.

"Let's eat."

We were in the middle of having our breakfast like normal people would when his phone rang again. I thought he was going to excuse himself that moment but he didn't. he continued to ignore the next three calls and tried to initiate a conversation with me.
