Ellis

"Where's mom??" I panted after running around the hospital.

"She's inside the room, with the doctors already." Suzy looked up to me with bloodshot eyes. It was evident to me that she was tired and has been crying too much.

I dropped my bag and slid down next to her. I stared at the floor for a while, my mind was a mess. The crowded halls started to grow faint as the doctor approached us.

"Are you Mrs. Clarke's children?" the doctor asked, I nodded at him so he could continue.

"As of now, she's in stable condition but we need to monitor her for the next few days just to make sure everything will be fine." He paused,

"You both look awfully tired. I'll get back to you tomorrow, so far there are no concerns. Get some rest." He patted my shoulders and walked away.

"What are we going to do, Ellis?" Suzy sighed beside me. "This always happens to her. This is the fourth time after she was diagnosed years ago."

"Go home and get some rest, I'll stay here with her." I told her without detaching my gaze from mom.

"You didn't even answer me." She spoke softly.

"Lock the door when you arrive home. Be careful." I instructed her.

She sighed again and nodded. "I'll get going," she went outside of the room and walked straight away.

I dropped down on to the couch and stared at mom who was sleeping soundly on the hospital bed. I heaved a breath and came near her. I grabbed a chair and sat beside as I reach out to hold her hand.

"We'll get over this, mom." I whispered,

"Soon, I promise."

Cassy

I tapped on the table's surface anxiously staring at my phone, waiting for Ellis' text. He hasn't texted anything after what seemed to be a cliffhanger last night.

Should I just message him?

But what if he thinks I'm clingy and annoying?

Stop overthinking, Cassy! It's just one message, it won't hurt anyone.

I picked up my phone and started typing in.

To Ellis : hey..

Nope, that sounds like I'm about to ask him a favor or what. Scratch that.

To Ellis : hi..

Well, that one sounds creepy. I shook my head.

To Ellis : Hello!

Wait, no. I sound like I'm working in a networking agency and is about to offer him a deal or what.

To Ellis : Ellis?

Hmm, that sounds nice. I was literally about to hit send when I received a message. I scrolled and it was from him!

Ellis : Hi, Cassy! Are you free today?

Gosh, I was close to hitting the send button. Why was I even making such a big fuss on what to send? I seriously suck at things like this, Sarah was right. I erased my weird and unusual message to type in a new response.
