The room was dark, the only light was the flashes of lightning flashing through your girls dormitory about every forty five seconds, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was the loud echo of thunder that followed the flashes of lightning, each one made you jump. It wasn't a very common occurrence for Hogwarts to have thunderstorms but when it did, you didn't get any sleep. You've always been afraid of them, you didn't really know why but it's been a thing since you were a child. The sound of yet another loud boom of thunder echoing around you made you flinch, causing the blanket that was on top of you to practically fall off the bed and you felt tears start to rise up in your eyes. No no no, you thought, not now!
You quietly jumped off your bed and grabbed one of your many kind of oversized sweatshirts, even though the one you were put on wasn't yours it was your boyfriend's that you may have stole from him at some point, before making the decision that you couldn't stay in here, because if you did there was a pretty high possibility that you would wake up your dorm mates, which you really didn't want to do because most of them could be really mean if they don't get their 'beauty sleep'. Now wearing your sweatshirt and crossing your arms over your chest pretty tightly, you walked over to the door of the dorm, carefully opened it, and walked down the stairs, down to the common room.
The common room was empty but the fire in the fireplace was still going, which you were grateful for as you walked over to the couch, when you sat down the first thing you felt was the warmth of the fire before you brought your knees up to you chest and basically hugged them. It wasn't long until the next boom of thunder came and since it was pretty loud, you felt the tears that were in your eyes slowly flowing down your cheeks no matter how hard you tried to keep them in, and the sob that in some way made it's way up into your throat came out but it wasn't that loud so you didn't bother seeing if you woke anyone up as you kept quietly sobbing.
Meanwhile, James was laying awake in his bed unable to go to sleep for reasons even he doesn't know. It wasn't very uncommon for him to lie awake at night, mostly worrying about the other three marauders but tonight it was different. it was the lightning that was keeping him up, the flashes of light that created shadows all around the room whether the drapes are opened or closed, and it makes him feel somewhat anxious, which isn't a usual feeling for James Potter to have. He was quietly tapping the bed with his hand because it's something to do when your supposed to be asleep, but he stopped when he heard something come from outside the door. It took James a minute to figure out what the sound was, but when he did, he became a bit nervous as to who it was and why they were crying so he quietly took the sheets off of him and lifted his legs over the side of the bed, trying to be as quiet as possible.
James walked over to the door, kinda debating with himself if he should go down there and see who it was, and luckily the side that wanted to go won that argument as James quietly opened the door and walked out. He walked down the stairs to the end, and he felt his heart break slightly when he peeked over and saw you sitting in a ball, in his sweatshirt on the couch shaking.
"Y/n?" James questions gently, looking at you with a concerned look as he steps off the stairs onto the ground. Your head snaps up and you feel your self jump at the sound of another person, but you quickly relax when you see that it's just your boyfriend.
"J-james, I-" You were cut off by the sound of another loud echo of thunder, causing your shaking to get lightly worse as you hug your knees a bit tighter. James didn't hesitate for even a second before he ran over to your side on the couch and wrapped his arms around you, it was like and instinct I guess for him to do.
"Shh Shh it's okay." James whispers in a calming way, moving slightly so that he was sitting on the couch beside you with his arms still wrapped around you in a comforting boyfriend-y way. You leaned into his touch a bit as you rested your head in the crook of his neck as tears still slowly flowed down your face, you hated that thunderstorms did this to you but there wasn't really anything you could do about it at the moment.
The two of you stayed there for what felt like hours in comfortable silence, neither of you knowing what time it really was, with the occasional echo of thunder which you still jumped at slightly but not as much because you felt much safer in James's embrace, and you closed your eyes gently letting yourself drift off a bit as James rubbed soothing circles on your back. The thunder that came every few minutes, was drained out by your boyfriend's heartbeat as you drifted off into unconsciousness, James soon following after.
"Gosh, they're so cute!" Someone-that sounded a lot like Sirius-practically gushes awhile later, causing you to drift back into the real world of non sleep, before the snap of one of James's muggle camera's could be heard, with giggling of someone else following.
"We should go before they wake up!" The person that was just giggling slightly-that sounds a lot like Remus-says, before the clattering of footsteps echoed around the common room. You sighed slightly with a small groan of being woken up, not getting the motivation to open your eyes just yet.
"I'm gonna kill them..." James says in a very tired whisper, the vibrations of him saying something very comforting somehow, making you giggle quietly before snuggling a bit more into your boyfriend's side.
