CHAPTER ELEVEN:
NEW ARRIVALS

"I LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR, what, a day, and you almost get killed?" Natasha Romanoff's voice filled the hospital room, making Olivia let out a laugh as her eyes were closed, laying flat on her back.

"How was your mission?" Olivia tried.

"Not even forty-two hours and you get a bullet lodged in your chest that should have reached your heart and killed you." Natasha continued, her arms crossed over her chest as her jaw was clenched.

"Aren't you supposed to be making sure the new guy doesn't like, jump off accidentally and drown himself?" Olivia continued, earning an annoyed sigh from Natasha.

"I'm so glad you think this is all fun and games." Natasha snapped. "I don't think it's funny whatsoever."

Olivia opened her eyes, letting out a sigh as she sat up and gave the redhead a sarcastic smile as she turned her head to face her. "You worry too much." Olivia chuckled. "Aren't you supposed to be an emotionless assassin that doesn't give a shit about anyone else?"

"I give a shit when it's both of my best friends on the line. I get the news that Clint was taken over by some crazed god, and that you were shot by Clint all in the same phone call." Natasha told her.

"I tried to get Phil not to tell you." Olivia shrugged.

"Why? So that you could hide it from me like you do everything else, just because of the fact that you can heal yourself and have no trace of the accident ever happen?"

"I don't hide everything from you." Olivia defended herself, earning a raised eyebrow from Natasha. "Okay, I hide things from you that I deem aren't important for you to know."

"Which is everything." Olivia opened her mouth to respond, closing it again as she let out a puff of air. Natasha sighed as she walked further into the room, Olivia moving her feet so that Natasha could take a seat in front of her. The woman's green eyes met Olivia's brown ones, moving a hand so that it was laying over top of Olivia's that was lying on the cover. "Are you alright?"

Olivia's eyes never left Natasha's as she gave Natasha's hand a small squeeze, the smallest of smiles falling on her face as she softly answered her. "I'm as okay as one can be after getting shot by their best friend."

     "Promise to lay low today?"

Olivia rolled her eyes before sighing. "I promise. Phil will throw me under the bus anyways if I get hurt, seeing as he gave me the all clear to leave this boring room."

"Steve Rogers is about to arrive." Natasha informed her.

"Well, let's go meet him out front." Olivia smiled before throwing the covers from her body, her usual cat suit covering her frame. The two women made it out of the room and to the deck where Olivia saw Bruce Banner looking around, completely and utterly lost. She smiled in amusement before watching a jet land, one that she and Natasha walked up to. It opened to reveal Phil and Steve Rogers.

"Agent Romanoff, Agent Jade," Phil nodded before nodding towards Steve, "Captain Rogers."

"Ma'am." He nodded towards the two.

"Hi." Natasha greeted whilst Olivia gave him a smile in response. Natasha turns her head to look at Phil. "They need you on the bridge. They're starting the face-trace."

"See you there." Phil spoke before he walked away and into the building. Olivia stood on the other side of Steve Rogers whilst the trio all started walking, Natasha speaking.

"It was quite the buzz around here, finding you in the ice. I thought Coulson was gonna swoon. Did he ask you to sign his Captain America trading cards yet?" Natasha quizzed, glancing at the man.

"Trading cards?" Steve quizzed furrowing his eyebrows. Olivia smirked.

"Oh yeah, they're his vintage set. He holds them dear to his heart, very proud of them." Olivia answered the man. That's when the three approached Dr. Bruce Banner who was looking around, trying everything in his power to stay out of everyone's way.

"Dr. Banner." Steve greeted, grabbing the man's attention.

"Oh, yeah. Hi. They told me you'd be coming." Bruce nodded his head, rubbing his hands together.

"Word is you can find the cube," Steve spoke.

"Is that the only word on me?" Banner quizzed, his nerves clearly getting the best of him.

     "Only word I care about."

"It must be strange for you, all this." Bruce commented, motioning towards the scenery and the people that were constantly moving.

"Well, this is actually kind of familiar." Steve nodded his head towards the men that were moving and training. Suddenly a smile fell on Olivia's face as she listened to the water below start to whirl from the fans that were spinning, preparing to lift the helicarrier into the area.

"Oh, this is my favorite part." Olivia smiled, sharing a look with Natasha.

"Gentlemen, you might want to step inside in a minute. It's gonna get a little hard to breath." Natasha told them, looking between the two men. The two women watched as Steve and Bruce walked to the edge of the ship, talking to one another before they both turned and followed the two assassin's inside. Olivia walked up to a computer that had Clint's face on it, her hand moving to the place that she had been shot, even though there was barely a scar there. Natasha joined her side, placing a reassuring hand on the woman's shoulder.

"Once we get our hands on the Tesseract, you're in the clear." Fury answered Bruce's question that the scientists had asked moments prior.

"Where are you with that?" Bruce quizzed.

"We're sweeping every wirelessly accessible camera on the planet. Cellphones, laptops. If it's connected to a satellite, it's eyes and ears for us." Coulson answered for him.

"That's not going to find them in time." Olivia mumbled, a frown falling on her face. Natasha glanced at the woman, Olivia turning her gaze to look at Natasha.

"You have to narrow the field. How many spectrometers do you have access to?" Bruce asked.

"How many are there?" Fury quizzed.

"Call every lab you know, tell them to put the spectrometers on the roof and calibrate them for gamma rays. I'll rough out a tracking algorithm based on cluster recognition. At least we could rule out a few places. Do you have somewhere for me to work?"

"Agent Romanoff, would you show Dr. Banner to his laboratory, please." Fury requested. Natasha gave the man a nod before giving Olivia a small smile and then turning on her heel and walking away with Bruce following behind her. Olivia watched the woman leave before turning her gaze back towards the photo of Clint, her jaw clenching as she remembered Loki taking over her best friend. She was going to kill that son of a bitch, no matter if it killed her in the process.
