CHAPTER NINETEEN:
THE TWINS

OLIVIA SAT THERE ON ONE of the many couches, a file in her hand. Her lips were pursed as she bit the inside of her cheek, casually glancing towards the other file that was placed beside of her, the one that she had yet to look at. The one that she couldn't bring herself to look at―︎her sister's file. She was surprised Alison even had a file seeing as Olivia hadn't heard anything from her sister since the two had been separated when she was little.

The file that she was looking at right now, was one of two twin girl's that had managed to pop up on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar. They were about ten years old, with one of them being a brunette and the other being a blonde. The two were currently placed in an orphanage, their parents having been killed during the battle of New York. And Olivia almost felt responsible for them.

"What are you looking at?" The sound of Natasha's voice filled Olivia's ears, causing the wolf to look up at the woman who currently had a bottle of water in her hands with damp hair―︎clearly the woman had just come back from training. Natasha moved so that she was standing behind of the couch, leaning against it as she looked over Olivia's shoulder.

Olivia's heart seemed to pick up with the woman so close to her, and she couldn't help but notice that that seemed to be happening to her a lot more lately. But she didn't show it, and instead she just sighed. "Two twin girls were placed in an orphanage after the battle of New York, the battle that their parents were killed in."

"Poor girls." Natasha frowned.

"Yeah." Olivia whispered. "But, they aren't normal kids. They're on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar, and they have powers, but it doesn't specify what powers exactly that they have. I wanted to check it out, but knowing me I'll take one look at them, grow attached, and want to adopt them. It's not like I can have kids anyways."

Natasha glanced down towards the woman, biting the inside of her cheek. She understood that feeling of guilt, of not being able to have kids of your own, but their reasons for not being able to were completely different. When she was experimented on by her father, the experimentations seemed to have messed something up that didn't allow Olivia to bare children, but Natasha's reason was because of the Red Room, and the ceremony she was forced to go through.

Natasha shrugged her shoulders. "I'll go with you. Keep you from getting attached, if that's what you want."

Olivia turned her head to look at Natasha, her lips parted slightly. "Really?"

Natasha smiled slightly. "Sure? Why not?"

Olivia's face immediately brightened as she stood up from the couch. "Alright. Uh, let me go get changed, and then we can leave."

"Sounds like a plan." Natasha smiled before watching the girl quickly run away. The redhead then glanced down to the file that hadn't been opened, leaning forward and picking it up. She read Alison Jade's name, and immediately she knew who it was. She knew Olivia had been trying for so long to open that file, but the female could never bring herself to do it for reasons unknown to Natasha.

Natasha sighed before grabbing both files and putting them back where they belonged before meeting up with Olivia outside, getting in the car and driving towards the orphanage at which the twins were supposedly at. Natasha parked the car, and the two females took a moment to look at the building, and both of them felt bad vibes coming from it. The two women exchanged looks with one another before they both got out of the vehicle and entered the building.

It was eerily quiet for a place that was supposed to be filled with children. Natasha looked at Olivia before keeping a hand towards her gun that was hidden behind her jacket whilst Olivia allowed her eyes to glow just in case any trouble happened. However she made the blue quickly fade when she saw an older woman walking down one of the halls.

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you come in." The woman apologized, moving to stand behind of her desk. "Are you two looking to adopt?"

"Oh we're not. . ." Natasha started, but Olivia interrupted her.

"I'm actually here on my own interest, my friend here just came for support." Olivia quickly smiled, her heart seeming to squeeze tightly in her chest at the word 'friend'.

"Well, then. . . let's introduce you to the children."

"Actually, I'm looking for two in specific." Olivia told the woman. "They're twins, a blonde and a brunette with the names of Amethyst and Ivory? Very unique girls with unique names."

"I'm sorry. . . but we don't have any children with those names." The woman quickly replied. Natasha glanced towards Olivia, watching as the wolf just stared at the woman before nodding her head and placing a false apologetic smile onto her face.

"My apologies, I must have the wrong place. Thank you so much for your time." With that Olivia turned on her heel and walked out with Natasha close on her heels. The two got back into the car, buckling up with Natasha starting the car and Olivia staring at the building.

Natasha glanced towards Olivia before saying, "You know that woman was lying, correct?"

"I noticed." Olivia hummed. "There's something off about this place, Nat. I'm going to look more into it, figure out the history and all of that."

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Natasha questioned.

Olivia shrugged. "Maybe it's not. But I think we aren't the only ones that know that the twins have special abilities of some kind. And I think that they're here, but they're being hidden. S.H.I.E.L.D. knows everything, if they were moved or adopted it would have been documented." Natasha nodded in agreement. "Seems like not only do I have our mission for tomorrow on our hands, but I also have the mission of the whereabouts of these two girls."

"You were never one to do one mission at a time." Natasha smirked and Olivia nodded her head in agreement.

"That is true." Olivia mumbled, nodding her head as Natasha drove off, her eyes staying on the building until it was out of sight before she turned to look at the road ahead of her, a soft sighing falling from her lips.
