She had been tidying up and cooking after she fed Willow and put her to nap. Suddenly her phone rang and she picked it up.
"Hey, sweetheart." her mom said.
"Hi, mom." she was glad to hear her voice.
"How did the doctors appointment go?" she asked.
"It was okay, She's healthy and happy baby." Sam said happy.
"Was Ronnie with you?" she was curious. Sam could hear her father on the background "Why would you ask about him, Sandra?!"
"Yes, he was." she said annoyed "Bit late but was there."
"Late?" Sandra asked. Sam could hear her father scoff "Of course this lowlife is late!"
"Mom." Sam said feeling overwhelmed "Can you go away from dad, I cannot deal with his critics" she was about to cry in the end.
"Let me just go on the porch.." Sandra said.
"Thanks." Sam said sighing, sad that someone so dear to her was saying shit about the man she loves. She had been feeling love towards him a long time, even at his lowest, meanest times. She had been ignoring it but the level she was hurt at that moment, told her that the feelings were still there.
"Are you okay?" Sandra asked concerned.
"Yeah, um... It just upsets me to hear such things." Sam said, trying to stay calm.
"Did he leave already?" Sandra changed the subject.
"No. Tomorrow." she said sad.
"You're sad" Sandra said and made her own conclusions "Is there something going on between the two of you?"
"Why would you ask that?" Sam was shocked and added "Can't I be sad about him being away? Not spending time with us?"
"I don't know." Sandra said "You tell me."
"I think I'm allowed to feel sad, now that he's in our lives." she justified herself "He's the father of my child after all."
"Okay." Sandra gave up "Listen.." she started to say when there was a door bell and Sam didn't listen to her anymore and said excited "Someone's at the door!"
"Someone?" Sandra asked and added chuckling "Someone like Ronnie?"
"Might be." Sam said "He said he'd drop by later." She looked through the door eye and opened the door, saying sweet "Hi."
"Something smells good." he said walking in.
"Mom, I gotta go." Sam said quickly.
"Okay, talk to you tomorrow." Sandra said. Sam ended the call and threw her phone on the sofa, looking at him, waiting "Hi." He took a step closer, towering over her "Hey." He kissed her slowly, enjoying the moment. After a moment she said "Come, the dinner is ready."
"You cooked for me?" he was surprised.
"It's just food." she giggled and started to walk to the kitchen when he took a hold of her wrist and purred "Still.." and pulled her into another kiss. He also had thought about how things were going between them. It felt right to him, natural, like it was meant to be. Everything seemed so easy with her, so clear and logic. The cosy and secure feeling she provided him, he had missed it for years and he didn't even had realized that there's more a woman could offer him beside sexual pleasure.
"Now come." she said pulling him by his hand. He followed her, smiling, checking shortly on Willow. He would have followed her everywhere by that time.
