Being popular isn't as easy as you would think.
I mean, it's nice and all, but after a while it gets kind of boring. I'm not even know by my name half the time. I'm mainly known as Finn's sister. It is nice not getting ice cold slushies in my face like half of the outcasts in this school. Something about if I got slushied it would be breaking the bro code or something.
I walked through the crowded halls, pushing past the people that I barely knew. I walked over to my locker and put in the combination. I felt people's arms brush past me. I think it might've been possible that I was the only kid here that barely had any friends besides my brother and a couple of guys on the football team.
I grabbed a couple of things from my locker and headed to my history class, the one class I could possibly stand in the whole school. I mean, every class either the teacher was annoying or I couldn't stand the kids. And that's saying something, I like a lot of people.
In the hallways, per usual, there was a lot of loud running footsteps. This time, the footsteps I heard. I knew immediately. "A.J! A.J!" I stopped and turned, to find my big oaf of a brother running towards me. "I need your help." I just looked at him. "So, I didn't do my Spanish homework and I have Spanish in like ten minutes, and I need you to give me the answers."
I shook my head. "First of all, I'm a freshmen." I began. "Second of all, I have no idea what you're learning. And third of all, Mr. Shue knows the difference between my handwriting and yours. So, no way. Kinda not in the mood to get in trouble."
I turned around and began walking away. He was still following me. "A.J. Please. If I fail this class, I'm gonna get kicked off the football team." I sighed and tried to walk faster, but no matter what, he was right next to me.
"Finn, listen. I know that like being siblings makes us like...dedicated to each other and we would take a bullet for each other, but again I can't do your homework because I don't even know what you're learning and Mr. Shue knows the difference. Now, I have to get to class."
I ran into the bundle of students that were already in the hallway and disappeared from my brother.
**
I sat in history class, slowly watching the time tick by. Everything in the class was interesting, its just the teacher that made it boring.
"Amelia?" I looked up from the notebook I was doodling in. "Are you okay? You seem a bit out of it." I nodded. "I'm fine."
She smiled. "Come up and answer the question then?" I sighed and walked up to the board. I stared at it for a minute before answering it and going back to my seat.
The bell rang and we all walked out. I walked quietly and to myself I was humming the tune of Miley Cyrus's The Climb. I was walking to Spanish, trying to think if I was missing anything or if I hadn't done my own homework. I thought I had, that's why I wasn't worrying about it much. We were all walking and the noise in the hallway was starting to give me a headache. I took my earbuds out of my pocket and listened to them the entire way to class.
When I got in, I sat down in the same seat I did everyday and took my earbuds out. I saw Mr. Shue walking over to the table that I sat at. "I am missing your project on Ecuador." I just stared at him for a moment before realizing what he was talking about. "Right! The Spanish Speaking Countries project. Mr. Shue, I am so sorry. Things have just been a little crazy lately. My mom has been doing night work seven nights a week and I've been trying to make sure that everything at home has been normal and...look, just give me an extra day and I will get it done."
He just looked as if he was thinking for a moment before he had a really creepy smirk on his face. "See me after class. I want to talk to you about something." I nodded and he went on with his class.
It seemed shorter than it was. I guess it's because I had something to look forward to. The bell rung and everyone got up to leave. I packed my things and walked up to his desk. "You wanted to see me after class, Mr. Shue?" He looked up from the paper he was working on and nodded. "A.J, listen, you have never missed an assignment and if you were trying to get things done for your family, I understand."
"So, you're not going to give me the F?"
"No, but only if you audition for the glee club."
My mouth dropped open. "You want me to audition for glee? Mr. Shue...I don't even really sing..." He scoffed. "I've heard you singing along to songs in class before. You're really good at it. But, if you want the F..."
"I'll do it. When are they?"
"Today after school." I nodded. "Great. I'll see you after school." I said to him and quickly left the room. Great. Now I had to audition for glee. One problem, if I sang by myself on a big stage, I got major stage fright. Like terrible. I can't move. My hands start to shake. I start to sweat. A lot. It get's bad. But, maybe this time will be different.
I doubt it.
