It was one of my favorite times of year. It was Christmas time. I went a little crazy when it came to Christmas. I decorated the whole apartment within an hour. I made Sam, Blaine, and Artie go out to pick the Christmas tree. I was having a small Christmas party that night. Finn and Lexie were coming, as were Scarlett and Santana.
I was pretty much done decorating the living room when Sam came down the stairs. "Aren't you going a little crazy? Its only the third of December. We still have twenty-two days." I turned and shook my head. "I'm not going crazy, Christmas is just my favorite time of the year." I turned to the tree.
"Do me a favor, in the upstairs closet, there's a box of ornaments and things for the tree. Bring 'em down, will you? I think it might be nice to decorate during the party tonight." He rolled his eyes and walked up the stairs.
"I wrote all the names down..." Blaine said, walking into the living room. "Oh, good! Put them in my Christmas bowl. They're for secret santa."
I knew everyone was annoyed with me, but it was my time of year. Christmas was the one time of year that I wasn't a bitch. It was the one time of year that I actually enjoyed. I mean, granted, last year when I was planning a secret Santa for Christmas, I thought I was gonna get killed because Sue decided to shoot off a god damn gun.
Why wouldn't they just let me have this one holiday? Did I complain when Sam went crazy on Fourth of July? Or how about when Blaine went absolutely bonkers on Valentines day? I didn't. I mean, even Finn understood that this was my holiday. Nobody would take this away from me. Ever.
The doorbell rang and I ran over to answer it. "Hi." Santana said as she pushed past me. "Hi...what...the party isn't for another hour. I mean, Finn and Lexie are still out getting food." Scarlett just looked at me. "It's very...Christmasy in here. Like...very." I smiled. "I know. I did it all by myself."
"How do you like New York?" Santana asked. "I've been here for nearly five months...but it's alright. It's much faster than Lima."
She walked over and flopped down on the couch. The very nice couch that I just put all my Christmas pillows and blankets on.
Another hour went by and finally, Finn and Lexie showed up. It was time to get the party started.
"Isn't the point of a Christmas party to have it on Christmas?" I sighed. "Well...it's more of a...pre-Christmas get together. We can decorate the tree and pick our secret santas. We can watch Christmas movies."
"Just go along with it. It's her favorite holiday." Finn whispered. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the table and grabbed the Christmas bowl. "Alright. So it's even. So, that works. Alright, alright. Everyone pick a name."
They all picked a name until there was one piece of paper left. Can you guess who I got? If you said, Finn, you're right. What was the point of the whole thing? I was always gonna get Finn. It was inevitable. The universe apparently never liked me and didn't let me get my best friends or boyfriend. I had to get my brother.
Finn and Lexie looked at each other before standing up. They both walked over to where I was standing and took my place. I walked over and sat down next to Sam.
"So...uh.."
"I'm pregnant!" Lexie said, smiling brightly. We all had on faces that showed that we couldn't believe it. "Was it a false alarm?" Scarlett asked. "Nope. The doctor confirmed it yesterday."
I smiled a little and laughed a little. "I mean, I love you both and, don't get me wrong, I am so happy for you. But are you ready for this? I mean, you're nineteen, and Lex, you're still going to school. To be on Broadway. Do you know how many hours the baby would be left with Finn or a babysitter?"
They both looked at each other. "Yeah, but it's a baby, A.J. We'll figure it out. Besides, you're one to talk."
"Why because I had an abortion at thirteen? No, I'm really not. I thought about what was good for me and that child. I wasn't ready to give it a life. I knew what I had to do. Do I regret it every day of my life? Absolutely. But what would you have done if you found out?" He went silent for a moment. "Exactly. Just, think about your lives and that baby's life before you decide you actually want to do this."
Everyone turned to look at me. "Okay...maybe that wasn't the right thing to talk about since most of you people didn't know about it.." I sighed and put my head in my hands.
"Well, this is my kind of party." Santana said, standing up. "Santana..." Scarlett went to grab her hand, but she turned away. "No. This is fun. Let's decorate the Christmas tree, let's watch Christmas movies. Let's have fun."
I nodded. "Santana's right. This was supposed to be fun, and then all I did was try to help and everyone got their panties in a bunch. Lets just forget that ever happened. I am so happy for the two of you, I am. But, think about it, please?"
They both nodded. "Alright, so, let's start. The guys can decorate the tree and the girls, well, I have alcohol in the kitchen. We can stand in there and critique everything they're doing wrong." I smiled and little and turned to the kitchen. "But, none for Lexie. She can have anything else, besides the alcohol."
And so that was exactly what we did.
